Let's say you're a woman who has visited this site and you want to join. You know it's 90% male or so. Do you think to yourself : If I say I'm a woman the guys will just keep hitting on me and not pay attention to my thoughts and political believes. So I'll just pretend I'm a guy.

I doubt it. I doubt newbies would know that much about this Forum, and the guys here are pretty civil, so I doubt a woman would pretend to be a guy here. I mean, we have a lot of openly gay Forummers (no offense to anyone), so I doubt a woman would be that scared to post here while using her real gender.
