I really can't see any Republican that can carry Vermont, but loose New Hampshire.

Landon, Willkie, and Dewey did it.

Yeah, but in those days Vermont was one of the safest states for the GOP in the nation. Today it is New Hampshire that is the most conservative of the New England states.
