A question--do we actually have anybody who WANTS to run for President in the party?

Should the Labor Party field its own ticket for this Presidential election?
[ ] Yes
[X] No

If the party does not field a ticket, which other candidate should it endorse?
[4] 20RP12
[1] EarlAW
[2] Polnut
[3] ZuWo
[ ] No endorsement

That's exactly why I'm voting No, since nobody seems like they want to.

I'm rescinding my No vote and I urge everyone to throw their support behind Barnes's candidacy for President of the Republic of Atlasia.

Voting is now concluded. Because of the various voting changes I'm declaring the first question unresolved and moot due to Barnes's decision to run. The order of preference hashed out in the second question goes a little something like this:

1. Barnes
2. EarlAW
3. Polnut
4. Duke
5. ZuWo
6. 20RP12

If anybody has objections to this, based on the merits of the scope of the voting, please let me know within the next few hours. Otherwise this will be the Labor Party's official recommendation for preferencing in the Presidential race (though depending on the situation we will not penalize in any form tactical voting otherwise than this to prevent the Presidency falling into the hands of the Right).

I'd also like to take this time to urge that Xahar or Antonio or both consider a run for Pacific Senator. We're the largest party in that region and bgwah is retiring so this is probably our best chance in this cycle to build up a strong Senatorial presence.

Let's talk party leadership.

Do we want me to be Chairman in any permanent capacity? What other offices do we think we need?

That, plus the education plank we discussed earlier, is helpful, thanks.

There is nothing wrong with the harm principle, but some might fear it as a slippery slope to libertarianism or neoliberalism. Thoughts, anybody?

All right, good.

Later tonight I'll see if I can flesh it out a little. If I can't, I'd like to propose a motion to only temporarily adjourn the convention for the election and return to Chicago afterwards to continue to decide these important matters (with the stipulation that it not take too long).

I think we should adjourn for the election and then return to continue policy discussions.

We are/were going to. But this is like herding cats.

Guys, come back. We should decide on our answer to Scott's question.

I guess it is. I guess we won't have any endorsements or recommended preferencing other than that for President.

MaxQue, you can attend the convention, it's fine.

Let's start discussing platform planks. I'd like to start with education: What do we think of it? Where should we go with it?

I would submit that we might change 'Primary' to 'Basic', 'Standard', 'Fundamental', or 'Comprehensive', according to taste.

I disagree, will explain later, but I don't think that students should be divided by 9th grade. I am thinking of using the current Community College system and allowing people to diverge starting 11th grade into Technical or traditional 4 or 2 year degrees and going to their community colleges. Make Elementary school 1-6th grades, and middle school 7th-10th.

I would support divergence at 11th grade. Quite frankly I wouldn't want my 8th-grade self making decisions about his future on his own.

the Communist Party of Atlasia (Marxist-Lenininst-Tweedist) says NO to the opportunist bourgeois parliamentarism of the Labor Party

The Labor Party understands why Tweed doesn't like it, but the Labor Party still likes Tweed.

Looks good to me.

Unless we have objections, shall we begin discussing labor relations or health?

So we're all in agreement.

The Labor Party demands a single national health system run from the public purse and free of charge to all citizens.

Do we need to elaborate beyond that or are we good for health care? If we're all set, I'd like someone to see if they can write up something nice on labor relations and workers' rights.

I want to state unequivocally before anybody else brings it up that I don't want an official party line on abortion, euthanasia, or politicized medical ethics in general. I want these to be matters of conscience.

What about gay marriage and guns?
As far as I know, gay marriage is still illegal here in Atlasia.

Guns I don't particularly care about. We're supporting gay marriage if I have anything to say about it since I don't think it's legitimately a conscience issue on the level of public policy. It is in fact legal in Atlasia the last I checked, but I'll try to find the source of that.
