AFAIK this is known as card check and Dems IRL tried to pass this in 2009 but didn’t have the votes. I am generally a staunch supporter of unions and feel the current laws make it easy for employers to stop union formation through means of intimidation. This has made it out of Congress before but was vetoed by fhtagn. Hopefully it’ll pass now that we have a lefty president.

Although I am personally opposed to unions, the fact is that workers have every right to join one if they so choose.
I urge all members to vote Aye on this resolution, and urge the Senate to look favourably on this bill.

They already have the right to join a union. The awful bill this resolution supports eliminates the right of ALL workers to a fair vote on whether or not a particular union can become their exclusive bargaining agent. Why should workers opposed to unionization not have the right to cast a damn vote on whether or not they should be forced against their will into the union bargaining agreement? Where is the fairness in that? If unions are supposed to be about the workers, why shouldn't the workers have a say in whether or not the union gets monopoly control over their livelihood? The Employee Free Choice Act is an enemy of fairness and a friend to monopolies who fear the workers voting against their control.

I suggest ASV actually answer the questions Mr. R asked him in the meantime.

A vote should be open by now.

If someone doesn't want to join a union, they don't sign up. It's that simple but neither of you two are going to ever agree with my position.

Mr. Speaker, the resolution is unanimously resolved in the positive. The slot may now be vacated, as as this is a resolution the First Minister does not need to sign it (and conversely, cannot veto it).
