www.electoral-vote.com has Obama ahead 61-35 in California.  I voted, yes, but 57 is probably his floor and 64 his ceiling.  The odds are in favor of Obama breaking 60% in California, but its not a given.

Wouldn't be a surprise but not guaranteed.

I hope Ventura, San Bernadino and San Joaquin vote for him. He won't win Placer and Riverside but I hope he makes big gains there. What I really want is for Tulare to start voting more Democratic.

My instinct is no, because of massive fundie turnout for Prop. 8. Also Nader could get a percent.

It won't happen. I think 58-59 is pretty likely though.

I think my county (Santa Barbara) is more likely than the state as a whole.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obama did break sixty percent in California, but I expect him to fall agonizingly short of the mark. Its quite likely that Senator Obama should receive anywhere between 57 to 59 percent of the vote in the state of California.

Tulare has one of the highest rates of Republican registration in the country.

And we may never know why. It voting patterns completely clash with its demographics.

Kern I can understand (former Okies) but Tulare is more like Hidalgo and Webb in Texas.

So is Tulare, Fresno, etc. Central Valley Whites are just California transplants.

Wow I am pretty sure now Obama will pass 60 in CA. I really didn't think it could happen. And even prop 8 will be damn close, even if it passes.

OC is 80% in and Mccain leads just 51-47. Wow.

Nah. 61% is his ceiling, though it looks like he's pretty damn near that. Returns from the Inland Empire haven't come in yet.

I didn't think it was possible either. California historically has been extremely divided. We can't even get marijuana legalized here FFS.

It will happen if young people keep turning out in good numbers. I guess it wasn't good enough to pass prop 8.

I guess you mean fail prop 8, but yeah, I see where your coming from. With that much said, the historical trend of the United States has been to offer more freedoms, not fewer. Marijuana & gay marriage will become legal everywhere. The only question is how long before these happen. Smiley

That's actually been the trend everywhere. Liberalism has always prevailed, and the center has shifted accordingly.

Yes I meant fail. Legalizing Marijuana is a long, long time away. Maybe we can do it earlier in a few states, but nothing on the federal level for a while. Gay marriage will probably be legal withing 20-30 years almost everywhere.

People function by having something to rally against. For example, blacks. What happens though is that over time & by degrees, people realize that these hobgoblins they were taught to push against actually aren't that bad at all. Hence you have blacks being liberated from slavery & later gaining real civil rights.

I agree pretty much. Not having gay marriage hurts gay couples by making them feel like they are being castigated from society, even if they do get civil unions & such. People are social animals. Being recognized by society, even if it changes nothing else, has a profound psychological impact on us.

Marijuana though, doesn't really hurt anyone by being illegal. It's not really dangerous enough to warrant being illegal, & it has a medicinal use as a painkiller, but nobody's being marginalized or deprived of their rights because of it. As such, it's a much lower priority in terms of winning more freedoms for the public.

I have a feeling that Obama has completed what Bill Clinton started.

x>60% Dem voting for CA in the future barring a Dem meltdown.

CA is the new NY.

It's funny that you edited it for the New York comparison, since when I read the original post, I immediately thought of New York.
