From David Waldman's twitter account. Dad shot in robbery. Son buys gun for protection. Family protests danger. Proves safety... by shooting self in the head

But as far as fools with guns causes problems versus person with gun saves the day, it would be nice to have some stats on both and it would be nice if people could acknowledge that both happen. Vaccines can cause problems too for some people. It's basic epidemiology. Unfortunately, the NRA has blocked such research for obvious political reasons.

Of course both happen, but we need to keep cause and effect in mind.

That story Gramps posted earlier is really interesting. Apparently when a student brought a shotgun to school after they missed shooting someone a teacher managed to talk them down before anyone died. If not for that heroic teacher a lot more of people might have died. Yay teachers!

Can't someone besides the NIH and CDC do this research?

Why do you think people have the right to shoot dead burglars? Do you support the death penalty for robbery?

Who said anything about anyone being shot dead?

Yes, the people have a right to shoot someone who is robbing them. One cannot mind read the intent of the perp, and the perp could easily go from a robber to a shooter. Unless he is shot first.

How many of the people you've cited survived being shot? Did the guy who was shot in the head and neck walk it off?

I see your point though. An unarmed 17 year old stealing a TV warrants 5 bullets in his chest. Shoot first. Ask questions later.

Are you grossly incapable of reading or just very, very stupid? The robber was armed, but he's not dead. Paul Ali Slater is a known hoodlum and he is still alive.

Yes, when you take a gun out and point it at an innocent person demanding their property, under Texas law you might be shot at. Such a shooting is justified under the law.

He had a crowbar. I'm sure the homeowner intended to only wound him when she shot him 5 times in the face and neck.

She didn't confront him with her gun. She didn't scare him away. She had him believe there was no one in the house. She then lay in wait, luring him into the attack before shooting him unprovoked and unannounced. She didn't call an ambulance. If he hadn't crashed his car during his miraculous escape he would've very likely bled to death.

Clearly a rational and reasoned response.

Yes, it is fully in accordance with the castle doctrine and shooting is certainly preferred to one's face being bashed into a bloody pulp. Although I'm not sure why you are selectively jumbling 2 separate hoodlums. The hoodlum in Texas had a gun.

I can play this game until it gets boring. Doesn't seem very productive though. Nobody seems to care all that much.

You crazy. Ask an intruder if he has a gun?  Nope. If an intruder is inside your home, and you are certain it actually is an intruder, then yeah, shooting is definitely an option.  The only thing I find fault with is her not calling 911 after the intruder fled.

How much would putting armed guards in every public school in country cost?  Sounds like a real waste of money.

Yeah, why is it that the U.S. is getting singled out and portrayed as some ultra-violent country on the forum?

Perhaps we need an international thread for glassings?
