This is where all the speeches, voting, etc will occur... if you needed any further proof that this thing acctually will happen, here it is.  I should have everything done by tonight and we should be rolling by tomorrow or Wed.

Next time we do this, it shouldn't take nearly as long since, amoung other things, I will already have at least half the non-player Cardinals made up (at most half will be replaced, depending of the length of the papacy of the winner here).

Announcer: … and as you can see, again the Cardinals are assembling in the Hall of Blessings at St. Peter’s.  This is traditional.  This is done before, as we mentioned previously, before they walk, in procession to the Sistine Chapel where the secret balloting will take place.

*Cardinals start moving forward*

Announcer: And we can now see the procession is moving towards the Chapel.  They are being led by Cardinal Dean LaCroix , who is also the Prefect of the Doctrine of Faith, which was the post held by Benedict XVI before his elevation to the Papacy and on that theme we will now turn to Richard McBrien, author of Lives of the Popes and many other books on the Catholic Church.  Mr. McBrien, thanks for joining us.

McBrien:  Thank you.

Announcer:  I’ll start out with the first and most obvious question.  What are some of the factors weighing on the minds of the Cardinals in this Conclave?

McBrien:  Well, first off, Vatican II is still an important issue in the Catholic Church, even now, 40 years later.  Many people in the Church feel like the nature of the reforms, how wide sweeping they should be, has not been fully nailed down yet.  Both Popes John XXIII, whom I regard as being the model Pope, and Paul XI took many steps towards liberalizing the Church.  Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI were both of the mind that some control needed to be restored to the Church, and they started to reign in a number of those reforms and tried to lock them down.  There are prominent Cardinals on both sides of this issue.

Another very important issue in this Conclave is the expansion of the Church into lands that are not traditional Christian.  This expansion of the Church, combined with its declining status in many Western countries is going to be foremost in the mind of the electors who are involved.

*Goes to shot of inside of the Sistine Chapel, electors are beginning to sit down*

Announcer:  The Cardinal Electors are being seated now.  We want to ask just one quick question of you before proceedings continue.  How is this election different from that which elected Benedict XVI two years ago?

McBrien:  Well, first of all, Benedict’s death came as more of a shock.  There was a “stealth campaign” even before John Paul II’s death to subtly organize support behind Cardinal Ratzinger.  Benedict was chosen as a safe choice and while no one expected to have to be back here this quickly, I think they have been thinking, in the back of their minds about who they want to succeed him.  That being said, I doubt there has been anytime at all to put together any kind of seriously organized effort behind any one candidate, so I expect that we will see a more wide-open Conclave here, which might produce a more surprising result.

Announcer:  Well, thank you Mr. McBrien, we will be hearing more from you later in process.

McBrien:  You bet.

Announcer:  We will now listen to the Vienna Boys Choir sing the hymn Veni Creator Spiritus a classic Gregorian Chant.

*hymn sung*

Announcer:  And now, Cardinal LaCroix will speak to the College of Cardinal, and to the world.  We will translate for you.

LaCroix:  May the Holy Spirit be with us today and for all the days to come.  I ask, each of you, to pray earnestly for the guidance of the Spirit in making casting your votes.  I know that no man can fully put aside his prejudices, his doubts or his past in making his decisions in life, but I would hope that each of you makes an honest effort to listen to the direction of the Father and our Lord Jesus, through the Spirit.  Should one of you be chosen, I ask you to remember the words and teachings of John Paul II.  “Be not afraid and go forward knowing that God is with you.”  God Bless us all.

Archbishop Jan Larsen: Extra omnes!

Announcer: And that is Archbishop Larsen, Master of Papal Ceremonies, giving the traditional order, “everybody out”.  All the non-Cardinals, including Archbishop Larsen himself, must now leave.  So our cameras are off inside the Chapel, but our coverage of the events will, obviously continue.

The first order of business before the Cardinals will be to vote on whether or not the tradition of total seclusion from the media will be observed in this Conclave.  Voting will now begin.  "Yea" enforces the ban.  "Nay" disposes of it for this conclave.  Keep in mind, this still won't allow the media in the Sistine Chapel.

From there, we will move to any opening remarks that any Cardinals may wish to make, but such remarks will be limited to a few sentances, as, per Cannon Law, we must have one ballot completed before the end of this day, which is within 5 hours.  The voting may proceed.

Sorry, my fault. I'd filled out the forms so I thought I was in, but it's fine, I understand the numbers game.

yeah, like I said, sorry... you are more than welcome for the next game.

And remember, keep them brief.

Assuming one does not have to put in every detail in the vote and further following everyone else in ignoring Supersoulty's point about being allowed to vote for oneself: Bishop Santiago

I am assuming this is a coalition building excercise on everyone's part... I certainly don't discourage it.

*Shot of black smoke rising up*

Reporter:  And we can clearly see that that is black smoke rising up above the Chapel.  And that means that the first balloting is concluded and we do not have a Pope.  We are hear now with Richard McBrien again.  Sir, your reaction?

McBrien:  Well, this is to be expected, certainly, if a Pope were elected on the first ballot, it would be unprecidented, at least in the last 1000 years.  Right now, many of the Cardinals are just starting to get to know one eachother, most of them have not had a chance to speak or interact yet, and they certainly didn't get that chance in the last Conclave, so this first vote, while it is certainly going to set the tone for the following ballots, it doesn't mean that much.  A lot of the Cardinals are simply going to vote for a name they have heard of.

Reporter:  And what are some of those names?  I mean, I know there is no way of us knowing, but who do you think recieved the most votes for this ballot?

McBrien:  Well, certainly Henry Hume, who is the Cardinal Secretary of State probably recieved a lot of votes.  He is one person that everyone in the Conclave is familar with, and he is a safe choice early on.  Other than that, several memebers of the Curia, ummmm, Meier, Cheng, von Frick, all big names.  I heard a rumor that the Italian Cardinals were putting up Cardinals Antonelli and Bertone as their two choices.  We will just have to see who emerges on the other side.

Reporter:  Thank you, again.  Now back to the news room.

Cardinal von Frick, using a cane, rises:

Perhaps I won't be "influencing" anyone, but I'm interested in how the cardinals see the sacramental role of the Church.

I'd prefer the others to go first.

(I hope I'm in the right place to do this.)

Yes, of course dear friend.  Is there anyone who would like to answer the Cardinal's question?

Note:  This will not be counted as your speech

Note:  I am allowing this long answer because it is an answer to a specific question, as opposed to a speech designed to cover several issues.

Also, thank you Gabu for giving us an overview of each sacrament, should any of the other players not be fully aware.

Reporter:  And we are live again here in Rome.  Once again we see black smoke, which means that a Pope has not yet been elected.  We will be back with experts again later.  Right now, we want to take you to live footage of a carchase going on in L.A.

*Cardinal Hernandez arises to speak*

My friends, so much of who we are can be seen in who we look up to.  Perhaps no one knows this as well as I do, in my role as the advocate of saints.

*Chuckles a bit*

For is this not why this Church recognizes special individuals as Saints?  So that we might all have Earthly examples of piety and faith that each of us may hold dear?

So I suppose my question is this.  My brothers, who intrigues your faith?  Whom do you look to for spiritual example and guidance?

Note: Answering this question will not be counted as your speech, nor will it preclude other Cardinals asking questions.

Scholarship has been so important to the history of the Church and the faith.  While the missionaries did much to spread the message of Jesus, it is only through the men who never left their desks *the crowd chuckles* that we have come to truely understand the faith which they so vigorously preached.  This is the pursuit to which I, and so many others in this room, have devoted their lives.

St. Augustine, my personal patron, did much advance... well, in fact one could say that he laid the foundation for Christian Scholarship.  I never grow tired of reading his works, or others takes on his works.  The beauty that can be found in his words, in his explantions of God's creation are truely astounding to read... a delight for the mind.

Often times, I do wonder why God put me here in this chair.  Today, I know the answer.  It was so that I might have to opportunity to meet the great Cardinal Ribeiro.

*He points to Riberio who is sitting beside him.  Some members of the College laugh*

*With a smile*

Honestly.  It is only by the happy coincidence of my special seating needs that I get to sit beside him.  Many hope that we can unite swiftly to find a new Vicar of Christ.  I have no such wish, as it would rob me the chance I have long awaited to discuss the works of my patron, in all of the seven languages we share.

Thank you.

*low murmors through the crowd*
