Flake says 'if it's a choice between Roy Moore and a Democrat, I'll go with the Democrat''.

After today's round of accusations, the increase of proof and the relatively strong pushback from McConnell and Co I have a feeling that this may be seriously shifting

It's good to see a Republican politician actually say this. BS write-ins for Mike Pence or Mo Brooks don't help defeat a candidate as much as actually voting for their competitor. Sometimes hard choices have to be made.

Still Lean R. A month is a very long time in politics, and we have precisely one poll showing Jones in the lead, and even that poll shows him under 50. Remember that in southern states, virtually all undecideds break for the republican.

What an astonishingly bad analysis, even by your standards.

You would probably vote for Moore, yet you shoot down analysis saying Moore will win. #AtlasLogic

And here's the next episode:

A Moore victory would be the worst possible outcome for the GOP at this point.   He'll be hung around the neck of every Republican candidate for every office in the country next year.

^ Yes, really. Even in D waves. For an example of that, see TN SEN '06.

Moore is going to win.

This. While Moore will win by a very embarrassing margin for a republican in Alabama, probably in the ballpark of 52-48, he will win, at least according to the data we have right now. I know that North Carolina Yankee is begging for a Jones to win as a means of repowering the establishment, that Dems are begging for a Jones win for obvious reasons, and that Santander is begging for a Jones win probably for trolling purposes. But at the end of the day, we simply don't have the polling data to show a Jones win at. Remember that McCaskill was leading in the polls consistently past-Akin. We have not seen that yet. We may see it eventually. But not yet.

I think the race will still be close, but I think it's worth pointing out that the polls only factored the first 3 days or so of the scandal. Most people don't follow the news as rabidly as Atlas posters, so there's still time for everything to sink in.

Yeah Moore is an election god in Alabama. I remember when he won by big numbers in 2012.

Oh wait, he won by less than 4%. Sad!

It's also important to remember that this is a low turnout special election 2 weeks before Christmas, so there's a greater chance that the polls end up being off.

There's going to be a nation wide backlash against AL when Moore wins this. They will definitely be the butt of a lot of late night jokes throughout December.

I wonder if it would spark any business or convention boycotts of the state.

I mean Virginia is a Southern state (yes I still consider it Southern) and most of the undecideds broke for Northam.

There should be an electoral backlash. If "San Francisco Values" can work as an electoral sledgehammer against the Democrats because San Francisco thinks gays are humans, then "Alabama Values" should work against the GOP due to the fact that they elect pedophiles.

Jones is a very slight favorite at this point but that could change over the next month especially as the intensity cools off on Moore. But don't use internet comments to assume people are sticking with Moore if Twitter comments represented actual voters David Duke would be the junior Senator from Louisiana rn

Most of Duke's Twitter support was probably from people that didn't even live in Louisiana. Most of the comments on that site are from Alabamians.

Also, it's not just internet comments. He's still ahead in most of the polls.

Is that not what you've done with every poll that has Moore still ahead (i.e. most of them)?

Alabama is already the butt of literally every other state's jokes. Even Florida laughs at Alabama.
