Nothing against the principle, but I'd prefer we pass a less imperial version of such a bill. I'm also slightly uncomfortable with the cross imagery.

I'll propose an amendment to this end after the Senator has given his reasoning.

I wouldn't consider giving distinction award to citizens by an order of merit a title of nobility.

Except we already have a Hall of Fame with different levels. Congressional Gold Medal, Congressional Silver Medal, Congressional Bronze Medal, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Presidential Citizens Medal, etc.

We do? Er, okay then, I don't see any need for this.

Motion to table.

Lets hold off on the tabling for a moment - I actually think allowing the President to recognize the contributions of Atlasians with some kind of award is not a bad idea, so here's my different bill amendment -

Obviously I just ripped the name off the IRL award so I'm more than open to changing to something else.

Oakvale do you still wnat the amendment?

A motion to table has been filled, but has not been seconding.

The sponsor has motioned to withdraw the legislation. Senators have 72 hours to assume sponsorship or the bill is pulled from the floor.

I'd still like to see something similar to what I proposed passed, yes. I'm not crazy about just ripping the name off the real-life award, but it'll do.

No objections to Senator Franzl's assumption of sponsorship.

If we're to amend again I would also suggest we change the name to make it more unique. Even just "Medal of Atlasia" or something would be fine.

The Gold Star reminds me a bit of a teacher giving a child a sticker for drawing a nice picture, but it could be worse.

I'd suggest considering language to allow the Senate to strip a recipient of their Star. I can't imagine it would come up often, but it's always possible an unscrupulous President in days past could have awarded Hamilton a Star, for example.

Also very minor but I'd prefer the postnominals OSAS and OSAG, removing the brackets for purely aesthetic reasons.

I'd still vote for the bill in its current iteration, though. It's about time we have a mechanism to recognise the accomplishments of our citizens.

I propose this as a substitute:

Fine by me although I don't see the reason for the 14 days requirement.

I won't hold up the bill over this, but in retrospect I think the acronyms OSS and OSG work better. Not a big deal. Tongue

What would that be- Order of the Silver Star and Order of the Star Gold? Huh

Also, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have the bull renamed "Order of the Star of Atlasia Act".

Typo, I meant OGS.

Would you be averse to including my proposed change of the postnominals in that amendment? Just to save time.

Aha yes... I skimmed the thread and thus my first vote was when I was under the mistaken impression that we were voting on your friendly amendment... Tongue
