Lunch time in Layton, Utah!  I have a really good boss.  He is going to allow me to take a half day off Wednesday and get my drivers license switched from Oklahoma to Utah and start the process of becoming a Utah resident.  The time off will be unpaid, but it is generous from my boss who knows that I have just gotten into Utah and only have a limited amount of time to get everythng switched over.

Whatever happnened to the thread of mod review if Bushie fails to lose x pounds? Has the time elapsed yet? I would love an update on this particular subplot.

Deadline is two weeks from now.

Deadline is two weeks away and I'm just 3 pounds away!
Pics or it didn't happen.

Put a piece of paper that says "Atlas" while you're on the scale and we can see the weight.

Well, I've got my car officially registered in Utah complete with Utah plates.  Tomorrow, I've got a nice, long day.  I found out this morning at work that they are moving us down to Salt Lake sooner than December 1.  October 15 is the new date.  I'm already looking at apartments...

I am exploring my housing options for the month of October.  My lease with the hotel expires on October 2 and I will probably extend it out another 2 weeks at least until the apartment opens up.  Things are going along splendidly in Utah.  I have started my 3rd week in Utah and things could not be going more smoothly.  I'm just exploring my housing options for next month.

You mean most people don't change license plates before finding a roof over their head.
How quaint:)

Congrats on the move, Jeff. Glad that you are enjoying it out there.

Also, did you change your insurance to reflect the new registration?  You can run into legal trouble if you haven't done that.

Yes, I changed my insurance before I left Oklahoma.

Yes, I changed my insurance before I left Oklahoma.

You changed it before you even registered the car?  That's kinda odd, and also contrary to Utah law.

I don't see why you're making all of these changes so fast.  They're unnecessary at this point.

Has any of the mod squad worked their techno magic to confirm that he is, in fact, posting from Utah?

I wanted to get them done early on so I don't have to take much time off work.  I will have to take a half day or so next week or the week after and change my driver's license, and I want to do it before we get too deep into training.  Once we get into October, I don't want to take any more time off the rest of the year.  I really don't want to even do it now, but I have to do it because the DMV is not open on Saturdays.

As far as the apartment goes, since I am working Monday-Friday during the apartment's business hours, I can only sign the lease and stuff like that on a Saturday.

Another reason I'm doing it so early is I take my voting privilege very seriously and I cannot register to vote unless I have a Utah driver's license and I must register minimum 15 days before the election to ensure I can vote in November's contests.  If I were moving up here let's say in early August like I had originally planned, I wouldn't be in such a hurry, nor or if I had moved up here after the election.  Since we are getting into the last part of September, I've got to get busy, because the election is just 7 weeks away, so the deadline to register is only 5 weeks.

Congrats, Bushie. You've managed to move to one of the few states where your vote matters even less than it does in Oklahoma. Tongue

I had to change my license and car registration to Minnesota at difference places.

No, unfortunately they don't.  They are both DMV, but they are completely separate divisions.  Even if they did, for Drivers Licenses Utah requires a passport or birth certificate to verify US Citizenship and I left both documents in Oklahoma by accident.  My mother just sent the passport to me via certified mail today, so I have to wait until it gets here.

This is true.  When I was in high school or college, and even throughout my entire 20s, I never envisioned Utah a place I would move to mainly because it's smaller than Oklahoma and it's heavily Mormon.  I always envisioned somewhere that has more electoral votes in Oklahoma and is somewhat of a swing state, which is why I initially looked at Missouri 5 years ago.  Texas, of course, has more electoral votes than Oklahoma, but it's not a perennial swing state.  Now, since I've moved to Utah, I've thrown all of that out the window.

Not at this time.  I'm not in the market right now.

Anyone care to summarize the past 10 pages or so (the Utah-episode so far) in three sentences or fewer?

Wait, wait, how the hell are you switching your vehicle registration, drivers license, voter registration, and car insurance all over to Utah when you don't even have a permanent address in the state yet? And even if Utah law for some reason allows you to do all those things by giving them your hotel address and room number or whatev, why would you go through the time (and money) to change all those things now when you'll have to update them in a couple of weeks anyway when you find an apartment?

Probably because he wanted to "feel" like a proper Utah resident. Bushie seems to place a lot of value on meaningless stuff like that.

I've already answered that question 10 times, so I'm not going to answer it again.
