Al's title and Stepney's outrage have been amended with no infractions or reporting of posts. But everyone should be on high alert from his point on Smiley

All I can say is - obviously I can't say anything about the topic at hand - but I will say I do deeply regret not knowing what Al had to say on the topic, and what his original thread title was. Cry

Very sad that we can't know what anyone really thinks about this woman or her death.  Wish I had logged on a bit earlier.

RIP to one of the most interesting women in the world. I wish I had been around to see her in action.

I feel so old watching the characters inhabiting my life fall away. She made a difference, and almost by her sheer force of will, and self discipline, helped to close Britain's standard of living gap vis a vis the Continent (and it was a substantial gap), and change public opinion about public policy.  Few politicians can claim to have done something like that, or even approaching that. Then she allowed her hubris bring her down. RIP.

On this side of the pond, I'm sure we'll predictably have Republicans waxing poetic about some heartland conservative version of Thatcher that never existed in reality. I remember a conservative friend once talking about how he admired her for returning Britain to "Christian values" and not knowing what he was talking about.

And of course there will be damning Facebook and Twitter status updates of people saying things to the effect of "omg u guyz Meryl Streep died" / "wait so the Iron Lady was like a real person???"

It's pretty pathetic to see how even this thread ends up being turned into the usual sh*tfest between the equally ridiculous lovers and haters.

In many ways I am pretty close to being a Thatcherite. Britain as a whole is much better off than it would have been under a Labour government of the 80s.
She got the peaceful death she was entitled to, and turned down a state funeral because it would have been hypocritical. Being one of the first women leaders and a giant on the world stage was extremely key to the advancement of women worldwide .The fact that twitter seems to be 80-20 pro Maggie (according to Sky News) is restoring my faith in humanity.

Exactly, there was a lot ... and I mean a lot, that I disagreed with but purely from a perspective of political history - the first woman party leader, opposition leader, prime minister and the longest serving leader of the 20th Century. She re-made her party and one can say (good or bad) her country.

People should show some decency, dignity and respect. Simple as that.

Thank you for such a considered statement.

If you find Thatcher so objectionable you can simply say nothing good about her.
Then just don't say anything.

I have long been fascinated by the fact that "Thatcher hatred" does not appear to have diminished at all along with the passage of time. Those who weren't even born at the time (or can't have much memories of the Thatcher years) seem to have just as strong opinions on her as those who lived at the time. I really can't think of any other political figure of whom this is true to the same extent... (Palme in Sweden would be one example, but even there feelings seem to have cooled somewhat )

I just saw a quote which seems quite appropriate at the moment:

“I will mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy”. – Martin Luther King

Politically I despise everything she stood for, but my deepest sympathies still go out to her family and friends who are suffering from this loss.

I would like not to, but I cannot help myself.

Well, she finally contributes personally to her beloved health-care and pension cuts.

Nicest thing I can say, really.

I think we're going to have a lot of U.S. conservatives shocked by the mixed reaction in the U.K.

RIP, Baroness Thatcher. While many may disagree with your policies (which I believe were the best in peacetime during the 20th Century), I'm sure most will agree the World needs more leaders that guide themselves by beliefs, not convenience, like you did.
