So how many attacks are happening at once? Last I read earlier was there were three separate attacks.

Here's my understanding of what's happening now:

- Two shootings in the 10th and 11th arrondissements, both over. No idea how it resolved.
- Hostage situation at the Bataclan concert hall - some reports that it's over, a big shootout took place. No word on the state of the hostages.
- Two bombings near the Stade de France.
- Unconfirmed additional shooting(s) in the Louvre/Les Halles area.

Hollande has declared a state of emergency and has closed the French border.
What does that state of emergency in french legal framework means?
State of emergency gives authorities the power to:
  • Regulate or forbid circulation and gathering in some areas (including by the use of curfew),
  • Close places of gathering
  • Conduct house-to-house searches at any time without judicial oversight
  • Censorship
And using French military on french soil?
Yes - although the military were (or appears to be) deployed before the State of Emergency was declared in this case.

Getting reports that hostages are being shot by one now.

Yes, several thousands already deployed all over territory since Charlie.

The 2 explosions close to Stade de France would be suicide bombers, maybe the 1st time in France if so.

I think France is overreacting, using its power disproportionally. They should meet the perpetrators halfway in their demands. Time for the US to pressure islamophobic France to do so.

Oh wait. Nobody says this if the victims are non-Jews.

State of Emergency will run for 12 days before a Parliament debate on it.

I find that just as appalling as you. But I also know where it comes from, and as long as we keep deluding ourselves about the causes of these attacks, they will happen again. That is my point.

I'm wondering who is responsible. Right now I'd guess it's ISIS.

All seems to have been very well coordinated, right in the same time apparently, nothing like all the pitiful attempts to attacks that we heard of during the last months, seems even better prepared than Charlie, looking like some 'pro' job.

France's 13-11 is Israel's 24-7. It is time for people to understand the connection between the attacks, and it is Islam. Obviously, liberal Americans do not like me saying that, but I cannot be fazed by that too much.

Yeah...it will be interesting to see if anyone claims responsibility.

Unlikely, although quite likely that these people take their inspiration from the ISIS franchise. It definitely seems more the work of a trained cell rather than the sort of Salafi second-gen neckbeards that make half arsed attempts at terrorism.

MSNBC is citing a counter-terrorism official in the US government saying that this is more likely Al-Qaeda than ISIS. Just one source, so take it with a grain of salt, but I agree that this seems more similar to some of Al-Qaeda's previous attacks.

Allegedly there's a RAID (SWAT) team inbound.
