Is anything being done to reduce the level of grinding in the series to help out the countless people who are addicted?

No idea about Gen 8, but I played Gen 7 (UltraMoon to be precise) a couple of months ago and they had introduced an overpowered Exp Share, where all your party members got Exp.

That certainly makes the game laughably easy, and in fact I disabled it. That did mean I had to do a bit of grinding but nothing too bad. (especially since I reactivated the Exp Share for grinding)
