Some seat math, plus PVO's contention that Rudd's stalling as the approvals go red. Similar to the debate Polnut and I have been having for the past while. Usual caution about reading too much into a single poll, but if that trendline continues...

Rudd is a politician again - PVO has been increasingly sensationalist over the past few months.

Note how Labor aren't allowing comments on their video...

And?

Most political parties do that.

Kind of telling that's the only response to that video...

Michelle Rowlands must be pretty happy right now.

Oh Jaymes Diaz, the Rick Perry of Australian politics... You disappoint me...

Apparently internal polling in Greenway has it at 56/44 to the Libs. I have no doubt that it wall fall, however I respect Michelle Rowland for her opposition to marriage redefinition.

When was that internal polling conducted though? I'd be interested to see some from Greenway now.

I've heard the opposite about Greenway... even before his cock-up, the Libs were not at all happy with Diaz's campaign and the internals I've heard has it line ball.

Rudd-Murdoch feud heating up, as Howard and Costello join the fray by blasting Rudd across the board.

On a slightly unrelated note, is it just me or do others also think that both Julia Gillard's and Tony Abbott's accents of Australian English are stronger than Kevin Rudd's?

Wikipedia does state at some point that Gillard is the first Prime Minister to speak with a "broad" Australian accent. Among other things she believes it's pronounced nego-c-ate. Haven't heard enough of Tony Abbott to determine his accent.

I've noticed this too. Abbott seems to have a generic Australian accent, while Gillard has been described by some sources as having a "bogan" or working-class accent. I've also read that Kevin Rudd, having worked as a diplomat for a number of years, has never completely learned how to "speak Australian". Obviously I don't know enough about Aussie accents to determine for sure. Tongue

Also, does anyone here think that any of Labor's seats in South Australia will fall? I know the state government is highly unpopular and the party's coming off a high-water mark in 2010, but the most marginal seat is held by 6.1%. It seems like there will almost certainly be a negative swing; the question is how big it'll be.

Rudd sounds very Australian. The key point is that many Australians do not sound like how Australians are thought to sound by people who know no Australians.

Weineresque sexting scandal involving a QLD state LNP MP who just happens to chair the parliamentary ethics committee. Caution: NSFW pix in article. In the meantime he should be removed as committee chair and banished to the backbench, since he admitted to it.

Re: South Australia (or anywhere else, for that matter). The margins give a good buffer, but there have been large swings in the past. There has been a redistribution, but look at some of the seats that have been held by other parties in the past. Barring demographic change, and subject to the redistribution, if a seat voted differently in the past,  whatever the present margin, it is possible it could vote differently. Probably indicates a larger proportion of swinging voters. Not that there will be large swings, just saying there is a potential, given the right circumstances, for large swings.

Will CSPAN cover the election?  If not, will any channel, I get in America, cover it?

Doubtful. ABC feeds are unavailable outside Oz, dunno about Sky. You'll get live results, though the polls close in the wee morning hours Eastern time.

Antony Green often mentions the geolock is removed for ABC feeds on election nights, so you may be able to get that.

It's common use in elections through the world. Geolock isn't useful on elections. No exclusivity rights, nor property rights with other countries.

An article on obscure parties.

The guy from the fishing party either has massive fingers, or is holding that fish much closer to the camera than his picture would imply.

And Australia can now boast of having a Rick Perry of their own: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/05/jaymes-diaz-australia_n_3710009.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

And he would probably have won otherwise, too: he's running in a NSW Division which voted ALP by less than 2% on 2PP in 2010. The swing seems likely to be more than that towards the Coalition in NSW, though I guess it'll probably be smaller/nonexistent in the Division of Greenway. Rowland should benefit from a sophomore surge as well.
