Watson seems kind of demeaning in the "Mr. Woodcock" way, making fun of retards and people with stutters.

Gotta love the East v. West dynamic in this tl's Republican Party. Also gotta love bashing Rockefeller Republicans. One of the great joys in life.

I've been asking this about other timelines also: How do the American people (or you) rank the Presidents since Harry Truman? Who are seen as numbering among the "greats" and who are abject failures? My guess would be:

Robert F Kennedy (D-NY) 1969-1973
Estes Kefauver (D-TN) 1953-1961

Charles Percy (R-IL) 1961-1963
Thomas Dewey (R-NY) 1949-1953

Harry S Truman (D-MO) 1945-1949
Thurston B Morton (R-KY) 1963-1969
Ronald W Reagan (D-CA) 1973-1981

Couple of questions:
1) How are the parties on trade? I'm guessing with the Democrats it's mainly the Progressive vs. Liberal divide with Progressives being fair/no-trade and Liberals being free trade. But what about the Republicans? Are they still following the traditional opposition to free trade, or, as they become more internationalist (Dewey, Percy, the Rockefellers), have they also moved to free trade?
2) How was Reagan on social issues? While he might take the more Populist/working man stance on economics, I'm wondering where he is socially. Does he stay as a pro-choicer? I'm guessing socially he would be somewhat like Nixon: War on Drugs, but liberal on issues like abortion, and possibly oppose gay marriage.

Thanks for answering the questions. Also, who are the "Conservative icons" of this timelines? Reagan's obviously taken out, and Goldwater never got onto a national ticket. Given that, who do historians say that Crane maybe "built his movement" on, or whose supporters he inherited, as well as who he looked to in terms of a "pinnacle of Conservative principles" or something like that. Would he refer mainly to Coolidge and Robert Taft? Or are there modern Conservative heroes as well?

I'm not really sure actually.
I think in some places it isn't legal for high schoolers to "HUH YEAH!" but in other places it's okay as long as both parties are under 18.  Or in some cases there is a "Romeo and Juliet" cause in which it's okay if like the older party isn't too old.
I'm not really an expert on it.

In either case, I'm not the most likely of candidates to get some, so I don't think I really have much to worry about.

Was Westman only like 35 or 36 when he ran for VP? Are the Dems still bitter about him running for VP in 1980? Also, what happened to the Classic Liberals? Did the Constitution Party nominate someone for President?

In all irony, one of the most popular Presidents is re-elected with less of the popular vote than the first election (though that was on the third round and in a two-way race).

By the way, I somehow stumbled across "Over the Hills and Far Away: The Story of Fred Harris" at one point, and I gotta say, are you obsessed with college professors dating much younger students or something?

Why does your writing always have to put my head in the wrong place? (not that it isn't permanently lodged in the gutter to begin with...)

Since you've skipped over to 1987, how's Crane been doing and how's the 1988 field shaping up? How many of the bajillion parties that exist in this tl will be running candidates?
