Hinting at a close race, maybe even with Walters winning...Wink If Walters doesn't win, it'd be nice to see him get elected to Congress as a Conservative.

Deleted latest entries due to change in plan and trying to avoid a potential shark jump.

Trust me, it wouldn't make sense in the long term.

I understand. As usual, you know who I'm rooting for.

In later years, Moynihan moderated on his pro-choice position and from what I recall, was against partial-birth abortions. I'll check though. How's Texas looking?

Yup, after checking wikipedia, he supported a ban on partial-birth abortion and went as far as to say to pro-choice feminists "You women are ruining the Democratic Party with your insistence on abortion". This is all later in his career of course.

It seems like Texas on social issues is a bit like Lloyd Bentsen himself in that it supports the death penalty and is pro-choice. Also, when looking over the Senate, I noticed that Ricardo Mantalban is in the Senate as a Republican. I also noticed that you kept the anti-war Robert Taft Jr. In office as well.

I have a couple questions:
Who's in Crane's cabinet?
How is Barry Goldwater Jr. doing?
Does Mendelik D'Israeli have any political experience?

Sweet cabinet then. Kahn was one of my favorite Star Trek movies. Too bad this universe won't have it.

CNNSad/b] It seems it will take an Act of God to prevent Scott Westman from being re-elected.........

Possible foreshadowing? Wink

That means that there are around five different parties in the Senate! Republican, Democrat, Constitution, Moderate Reform, & Conservative!

How's Senator Walters doing?

Also, when would the Governor's race be; 1984 or 1986?

Walters is into his second year as US Senator and is about currently penning legislation dealing with defense spending.

Governor's race is in 1984, just like the date in the entry indicates.

I had assumed that what they were in was a Senate debate or something like that and he decided that he was going to take it all the way to the debate, then say he was going to run for something else.

Yeah, while I was reading the debate text, I was wondering why Baucus said he wanted to return home if he was running for re-election. I was thinking "you hypocrite, you're not making any sense" (to Baucus).

Beau's mind is deteriorating by the day. I like how even D'Israeli's own Libertarianesque Republicans are in the group labeled "Blatantly Critical", such as Goldwater and Taft. That means D'Israeli's alienated his own base. It'd be funny to see him win the nomination and go down in a landslide, but Crane's a Republican.

I really love this timeline, with all of the changes and butterflies as well as the mixing of fictional characters. As for Dallasfan, I'm not sure what party I'd be in because of the changes as well as inner-party shifts. I'll have to answer later.

When you say New York Governor Shepherd Smith, is this a real person, or fictional? Because there's a FOX news commentator named "Shepard Smith" (though I think he was born in 1964)

Is Ebert that movie critic dude? Like Siskel and Ebert or whatever? I think I remember that name associated with a movie critic.

Baucus actually made a good point in the debate despite admitting that he wasn't really interested in being Governor.

Is this Ray Hutchinson a real person?

Also, feel free to do Christian Mattingly. In Americana he opposes free trade, but you can have him go either way.

As a Vietnam vet (I don't know how that translates in this timeline), in Americana, Mattingly would vehemently oppose flag burning given that he saw several of his fellow soldiers go down fighting for that flag. However, I don't know how long the Vietnam War went, though he joined in 1966.

On economics, I'd make him a bit more Conservative. Despite a working class background (which influences his views on trade), he's also a businessman and doesn't like regulation or taxes.

On other issues, I'm not going to worry or bug you about given that I view them as more minimal, or right. I view Mattingly as a Reagan Democrat, however, there's no such thing in either Americana or here (at least not in the current definition).

However, you can shift his ideology any way you want in order to make it suit the story or just because. I'm not going to try to micromanage how you do things, or even manage.

Oh, by the way, I stole your idea of having Spiro T Agnew as the 1972 Republican nominee. When I first read it I though "How cool would an Agnew era be?", and in "A Second Chance" I did just that. His era lasted about one and a half years. I keep meaning to credit you, now I remembered.
