Just a random point: Since 1991, Ohio only once elected a Democratic governor. That was Ted Strickland in 2006 when his Republican predecessor had a massive corruption scandal and an approval rating in the single digits (the lowest on gubernatorial record) while Democrats had a good night nationally. And Strickland was voted out of office four years later, even though it was closer than 2018 in a Republican wave year.
