What Republicans would you have came closest to supporting since Ike?

Richard Nixonin 1960, because I'm not the biggest fan of JFK and didn't like that he wanted to cut taxes and wasn't too found of his foreign policy and I would not have been a fan of selecting LBJ as his running mate without hindsight but I'm not a fan of Nixon either and wouldn't have been convinced he'd cooperate with a left leaning, or Gerald Ford in 1976, because I don't really mind Ford and liked his position on campaign finance reform, but being in the same party as Watergate and his dumping of Rockfeller for someone more conservative, I would have gone for Carter in the end. The most likely perceived scenario that could have gotten me to vote Republican was 2000 if McCain had gotten the GOP nomination and he was up against someone who I didn't like on the Dem side (say had Bob Kerrey had been the nominee). I may have voted GOP if Rockfeller had gotten the nomination in 1968 against someone like Scoop Jackson (who of course did not run) and likely would have had he gotten the nomination in 1960 against JFK.

You don’t like Reagan?

I don't. I would have found Reagan very frightening in 1980, and Carter at least was good on the foreign policy front, and in general, like Mondale as a whole. Now to be fair, there are aspects of Reagan that I prefer to today; I think he was more of a genuine conservative, and not blindly backed by corporate interests like I'd say, and he was willing to work with more conservative factions of the other party. Just to be clear, I'm not a full on socialist and am fairly moderate on social issues but I do tend to agree with left factions of my party on many economic issues (healthcare, education, unions, regulation of banks, credit cards, payday loans, and industries like that) of which Reagan is no match for, considering his tax policies that freed up too much capital to the wealthy and his firing of striking air traffic controllers.
