Good luck.

I'd pay money to see the Tea Party's reaction to that.

RIP

Obama's best hope is a swing justice - the senate isn't confirming a liberal to replace Scalia.

I hope Obama's strategy is

1. Nominate a super-liberal

(get rejected)

2. Nominated someone center-left

(get approved... and the person who Obama really wanted)

Because if he went right to #2, that he'd probably have to nominate someone even more centrist. The first choice is almost certain to be rejected, no matter what.

RIP FF; Scalia wrote some of the most fun to read opinions of all Supreme Court justices. His unrelenting textualism has changed the way even liberal justices have interpreted laws and the constitution in their opinions. He was truly one of the one or two giants currently on the court.

The Senate isn't going to let ANYONE who could conceivably change the courts conservative lean go forward.

I think the GOP will let Obama choose a moderate or swing Justice. Waiting too long could invite unnecessary backlash and open up a possibility to another Dem president and Dem-controlled senate to choose someone even further to the left.

Since the Court is likely to remain this way for a long while... What happens when a decision is split 4-4?

He's 92... but if he were younger, I'd love to see him on the Court.

Lower court opinion stands, with no Supreme Court precedent.

They have a quorum of six, right? So they'll be okay for a while.
