FYI, I have an uncle who worked in the IL state government in Springfield back in the '80's and was forced to become a registered Republican in order to make sure he kept his job under Thompson.
Really?  That's not cool.  I still like Jim Thompson, though.  Isn't Illinois an open primary state, or wasn't it one then?
