The entire new website is just horrible. And the Michael Steele walk-out on the homepage is creepy as sh**t.

The entire new website is just horrible.

Really?  I've been extremely dissatisfied with Steele's chairmanship thus far, but I like the new site.  What do you find wrong with it?  I might be missing some things, being that I have no experience in web/graphic design.

in general, the first black chairman's blog should not be called "What Up," the administrator's login & passord as well as the RNC chairman's gmail password should not be posted, and the GOP's "New Leader" section should not take you to an empty 404 error page.

In addition to all the things Lunar mentioned, I just think the overall design concept isn't particularly visually appealing. The red is way too bright and bold, there's way too much open space and embedded material with links, waaay too much text... I haven't looked through it all but my initial impression was not very good.

There are two possibilities:
1) Some white Republican thought this was a good idea
2) Michael Steele thought this was a good idea and the whites felt too racially awkward to call him out on it

Honestly, I dont like the homepage of the new site.
But it has a nice social networking part. It's similar to Ning.
It's nice. But I don't like the "faces" thing.

I was just thinking how funny it would be for some black, Republican, web designer to be like, at the website board meeting being like, hey guys, check out this idea

Apparently the face changes every time you refresh. With a sample size of six, I've gotten two black men, two black women, and two white men. This party couldn't be any more of a self-parody.

The best one (which Lunar mentioned earlier) is easily Frederick Douglas.

Wouldn't it have been cuter if they had weighted each group by their percentage of the American populous populace?  Every five hundred clicks you get a Lithuanian lesbian

I didn't see the "What Up" section, and wasn't aware of the password stuff.  I also didn't really click any of the tabs or explore the site past the intro page.  I guess I just found the site aesthetically pleasing, as opposed to testing its functionality.

When I clicked the link, it took me to a blog entry by Steele titled "Change the Game".  I didn't see "What Up" anywhere, so I assumed it was a joke made by the original poster.  I don't know if I'm not looking hard enough, but I'll take your word for it.  It wouldn't surprise me, coming from Steele and all.  :P

No. In 1960, he supported Humphrey, then Nixon.

Jackie Robinson was a Republican, but he left the GOP because of their views on race. (lol)

Quote from: Jackie Robinson
That convention [GOP 1964] was one of the most unforgettable and frightening experiences of my life. The hatred I saw was unique to me because it was hatred directed against a white man. It embodied a revulsion for all he stood for, including his enlightened attitude towards black people.

A new breed of Republicans had taken over the GOP. As I watched this steamroller operation in San Francisco, I had a better understanding of how it must have felt to be a Jew in Hitler’s Germany.

also you stole my signature, bro >:(

haha, I have signatures turned off, but that's funny if we both independently thought that graphic was great.

In all seriousness, it's good for the GOP to do minority outreach.  They have to if they want to remain viable, and one of the easiest ways to initially engage the issue is to do so symbolically.

Of course, the NRSC has decided to endorse non-incumbent candidates, something Obama doesn't even to do, in at least two-three of the states where a strong grass-roots minority is running (Colorado-Texas-Florida).  They did recruit Sandoval though, hmm.

I expected Steele to make a concerted outreach toward African-Americans, but I didn't expect it to be so patently dishonest.  I knew they should've elected Anuzis.
