Title: Chamberlain calls snap election for November 1938 Post by: rob in cal on November 11, 2009, 11:16:16 AM I wonder how a snap general election called in the immediate aftermath of the Munich conference would have gone. In the immediate afterglow of it, with Chamberlain riding high, I would imagine the Conservatives would have won a solid victory, but they already had such a huge majority I'm guessing still might have lost some seats, but retained most of them.
Also, would Chamberlain have tried to force tory local constituencies to refuse to renominate the handful of tory rebels like Churchill, Boothby, Nicolson and others who were coming out against his appeasement policies. I'm guessing if Churchill wasn't nominated again he could have won election as an independent or maybe a Liberal again? |
