Any last minute instructions regarding the elections can be PMed to me, and some of you might get contacted anyway. I will work out a better way of running these at some point, but it makes sense to get them out of the way to focus on the fun stuff. Because then the trauma of elections will be more real, while right now... yeah.
But I can confirm that agents for both main parties believe that a slight swing to the Socialists is likely. No one is quite sure how well the Liberals will do, or what will happen in Eastridge. Title: Re: Elections Post by: Filuwaúrdjan on November 19, 2010, 07:32:52 PM Polls have closed.
At the count little can be told from the face of the MSP's veteran agent, but for the Conservatives, Berry looks a little concerned. The agent for the ERA looks like he's about to be sick. The Municipal Socialist Party has retained its majority on Stovesby City Council, winning seventeen of the twenty seven seats up for election, a gain of one seat. The Municipal Conservatives have won ten seats, while the Municipal Liberal Party have failed to win anywhere and the same is true of the Eastridge Residents Association, who have lost one seat. This means that the new balance of power on the City Council is as follows: Socialist 48, Conservative 30, RA 2, Liberal 1 Gains and Losses St John's: MSP gain from MCP Eastridge: MCP gain from ERA The largest majority was in Ardthorpe East & Donsett where Socialist councillor Arthur Watkins polled 83% in a two-way fight, and the smallest was Culzeansands where veteran Conservative councillor Edward Adams prevailed by just thirteen votes, and after two recounts, against J.A. Henning of the Liberals. In other results of interest, the Socialists held Gawther by a solid margin and Upper Stovesby by a narrow one, while the Conservatives narrowly held off the Liberals in Soult. Liberal candidate Walter Lawley polled surprisingly well in Shaddyside Botanical, though the margin was not as close as appeared during the early stages of counting, while the MCP majority in University was apparently the lowest since the ward was created in 1922. In addition, John Fredericks' majority in St Michaels was surprisingly low, perhaps unsurprisingly given unfavourable press coverage in recent weeks. |
