CABINET NOMINATION HEARINGS UNDERWAY

PRESIDENT WATCHES 'BIRDS AND BEES' BILL WITH A CLOSE EYE.

The President today has stated that he will be paying close attention to the Senate bill to lower the age of consent to 14 and the impact this may have on a federal and regional level. "Given that the Senate has aleady passed the Bow Chicka Bow Wow Act permitting the legal use and purchase of pornography for 14 year olds" the President said "14 appears to be the new benchmark for sexual consent. Any liberalisation must be met with increased STD prevention, contraception use and other forms of comprehensive birth control."

Good luck, Mr President. I hope your administration will be successful. ;) You certainly know that Atlasia is facing tough time, and needs a strong leadership to protect it. Be worthy of such situation.

PRESIDENT ORDERS FEDERAL TROOPS TO REMAIN ON GUARD AND ON BASE

The President today raising an eyebrow at events affecting some of the regions has ordered all federal troops to remain at base until further notice. Says the President 'These sorts of things are rather annoying but the best way to stop them is to not take them too seriously. Games within games are not how organising within Atlasia should be approached.'

Does President have a power to federalize regional militias? If so, I'd propose to federalize Southeast militia and order them to remain in bases to avoid deeper crisis.

PRESIDENT INVITES SOUTH EAST AND PACIFIC GOVERNORS TO WHITE HOUSE

Shortly after attending the theatre the President today was briefed further on the trading standoff. Concerned at the potential for some more detached members of Atlasia turning a drama into a real crisis the President issued the following;

'I would like to invite the Governors of both the Pacific Region and the South East Region to the White House for tea and talks. The interuption of trade within our borders over a legislative snub is unprecedented and alarming. If either Governor declines the invite, I will come to them.'

People are still concerned by the HAEV ;) It would depend on what was being asked of the HAEV but I don't think I'd veto it. I don't care enough about the HAEV (and never have) for it to merit much attention from me to be honest.

As a person living on the far side of the world (that phrase always makes me think of Master and Commander), I am always pleased for the Presiding Officer of the various legislatures to take a more active role. That ensures that votes are opened and closed at times most suitable for the majority of participants. I try to keep informed of what is taking place in case I need to step in for casting votes, etc, but tend to take more of a laissez faire approach.

Monday 15th March

CABINET MEETING TO OPEN TOMORROW, PRESIDENT TO TAKE BRIEF SOJOURN TO ATTENT GTO ASSEMBLY

The President today, interviewed by the Press Alliance commented briefly on the situation in Mexico; "18,000 deaths in 4 years is not just a drugs war; its a war. The generals are the cartel leaders with money and wealth and the soldiers are the drugs pushers, the misfits and those who do their dirty work for a quick buck, for status and for misplaced pride. We cannot wash our hands no matter what the status of the victim is or perceived to be. The fight in Mexico by the police and the state is also a war; a war to secure the ports. It's a war to secure our shared border. The gangs and cartels are fighting this war amongst themselves to secure a foothold in an increasingly dangerous market. We owe it to Mexico and we owe it to ourselves to fight that fight on our borders too. Our border police need training and funding to ensure that they can fulfill their traditional role but also to adapt to international drug cartels and piracy. I will annouce more at the GTO but you can be assured that this President is taking this issue very seriously."

Thursday 18th March

I have been given the sad news that a pregnant Atlasian consulate worker and her husband alongside the husband of a colleague were gunned down in an ambush in Ciudad Juarez on Monday. Children close to the scene were also injured. I consider this to be a personal attack on the governments, diplomats and law enforcement organisations of Atlasia and Mexico. When this happens you mourn for those we have lost and continue to loose. But we also fight back. I ask the Senate to appropriate an increase in the aid to the Mexican government to fight the cartel wars. I have also given instructions for the National Guard to be on a high level of alert at border areas to support and aid the border police. Security is also being stepped up at our embassy in Mexico which will continue to function as normal.

Anyway, I know the UK election is on which is keeping us all busy watching, but I thought perhaps we should try getting this off the ground... perhaps after the mid-term elections?

Mr. President-

It has come to my attention that the incompetence of the SoFA has led to a Voting booth that says voting doesn't start till the 19th which is Monday. Usually elections run Friday through Sunday night. In my opinion, the SoFA by his own words said he planned to resign after this election simply copied and pasted a booth from a previous election and then neglected to change the dates. Please rectify this failure of duty as soon as possible before too many people invalidate themselves by posting questions in the booth.

Senator NC Yankee,

On the topic of upcoming matters that should be attended to:

International News

April GTO General Assembly: Paris, France
The next GTO General Assembly, slated for April 20 to April 23, will take place in Paris, France, according to sources close to French President Nicolas Sarkozy. A formal announcement will be issued tomorrow morning.

The four-day extended meeting will likely focus heavily on resuscitating the GTO Monetary Fund idea, which has received strong opposition and very weak leadership since its announcement. As the host country, France used its agenda setting power to set aside two full days for discussions on the proposed monetary branch of the GTO in the hopes that a deal can be struck. Atlasia has not announced a formal position on the issue.

Discussions on the drug trade and international drug trafficking will continue as well. The governments of Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and India have begun work on a proposal that would focus on reducing demand for drugs in wealthier countries, especially Atlasia. Many European countries have cringed at the idea in the past, arguing for greater local control of drug production. There has been no word on a potential compromise.

The final day of the conference will revolve around issues in African development, including aid reform, a set of global goals for the continent, and women's rights. South Africa's delegation will likely chair this portion of the meeting and has called on GTO countries to each craft a clear agenda on the topic to be presented to the entire body.

Atlasia may want to send a delegate, as well as craft some sort of agenda on the topics to be discussed.

I must admit, this is getting absurd.

Do you mean the fact that hawkeye keeps asking the same question, or that aflietch won't answer it?

Yeah, sorry, the fact that Afleitch has thusfar refused to answer this question despite the fact that we are merely a few days away from June. I've asked him repeatedly in private. Purple State has asked him repeatedly in private. He won't answer it in public despite routinely being asked. I've stayed away from directly confronting him on this issue to be nice, but I'm getting a little irritated that he won't answer. (And I want some opposition.)

There is still a government here, right?

There is an AG, SOEA, RG and SOFA, don't know about a SOIA; and likely no President or VP though.

I'll probably make a fairly important policy announcement fairly soon, fwiw.

Once does not equal repeatedly ;) I'm awaiting on some real life stuff to be (hopefully) out of the way prior to saying anything.

Thank you for your service Barnes :)

In the meantime I am pleased to announce that Peter has kindly offered to assist as AG on an interim basis.

Thank you Mr President for this chance to serve our nation again.

I am greatly looking forward to making a contribution to the legal affairs of this nation once again - the need for legal reform is apparent to all, and I intend to start on this in earnest. The main priority for the moment will be ensuring the statute thread on the wiki is up to date.

I have asked the PPT for a Confirmation Hearing. Hopefully it will be forthcoming soon.

The President today has condemned as 'excessive' the action taken by Israel. He confirmed that "as strong as a supporter of Israel as this administration is, there is no doubt that a heavy handed military response to an aid convoy is a mark against the State of Israel that may, in the most sinister of minds prompt politicised retaliation."

x Afleitch

I have no issues with a committee at this stage. However this has to be seen to go somewhere. I want anyone from the Senate who is genuinely interested in being part of this to notify me on the White House board so that I can consider balanced suitable non-Senate appointments too.

I'm very interested in serving on the committee if the Senate will allow it.
