Title: Will John McCain run for president in 2008?
Post by: A18 on October 30, 2004, 10:05:52 PM
What do you think? I forget what age he'll be.

I don't think I would vote for him, but he'd probably win.

He'd be 72 years old (3 years older than Reagan was when he was elected.)  His last realistic chance would have been this year had Gore won in 2000.

True, but it's not rare to live to be 80 years old anymore.

I still don't think he'll run, but I kind of hope he does. We've had too many close races already; America needs a landslide.

If Leiberman and McCain ran in 2008, I'd vote Jewish.

Too old and has a history of cancer. But he might entertain the thought.

Probably not, but he wouldn't make a bad President.

Too bad Bush screwed him over so in 2000.

Extremely unlikely.

No.  What would be the point?  The party is controlled by the religious, and they're not having him.

Hope not. If we're electiong a RINO, better elect a democrat, since he would have the congress to oppose him.

I don't see him running; people do live longer lives nowadays, but 72 is pretty old to be on a nationwide campaign trail.  It'd wear him down.

Have you ever noticed that while in office, Presidents age quite rapidly, but once they're out of office, their aging process seems to slow down dramatically.  Even four years has aged Bush quite a bit, but I'd never guess that his father is 80.  Carter does look old, though, but Ford looks great for being 90+.

Doubtful. Both him and his wife have had a history of illness. He may not even be around by 2008.

I think he will.

The Arizona Republic recently ran a story (http://www.azcentral.com/12news/news/articles/1029mccain-future29-CP.html) on that very question.
