Add another state to the list of pure Red states (UT, NE).  In 2000, several counties near Muskogee, OK went Gore, most likely due to Indian populations??  But this time, it went all Bush.  Any reason why?

Probably just who showed up to vote. Wasn't a gay marriage ban being voted on in OK? That would do it.

Pure-red states were Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Utah. Not sure about whether the one district in Alaska that went Gore in 2000 went Bush this year.

Pure-blue states were Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

In 2000, all-red states were Nebraska, Utah, and Wyoming. All-blue states were Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

Bush lost Wyoming because of Teton County. Kerry lost Connecticut because of Litchfield County.

Wyoming was no longer a pure blue state this year. Too bad.

The results on this site say that Kerry won one county in Nebraska.

Yeah...I'm not sure what that is. I was just about to ask about it myself.

The county indicated is Thurston County, Nebraska. The results there were Bush 61%, Kerry 38%, Nader 1%.

I also notice that Mono County, a tie to the very vote, is shown as a Kerry win (bright red).

A recount of Mono County was done and Kerry won by seven votes.

Jackson Wyoming in Teton County,  right outside the grand tetons and Yellowstone.  I didn't know I would see the day that Wyoming had a liberal bastion.

But do you guys really want to brag about holding all of Oklahoma?  I mean who is representing you there?  Tom "Rampant Lesbianism" Coburn?  A man afraid to let more than 1 girl go to the bathroom at once.

Tom Coburn will be as entertaining as ever and will be exactly what the Senate needs, a troublemaker and a independent, John McCain figure of the right.

I can't wait to let him and DeMint and John Thune out on that staid, tired, backwards legislative body.  They'll give Teddy Kennedy and Barbara Boxer heart failure.  :)

So where's truth about Thurston county, NE? It was very, very close in 2000. It's also 40% Native American (Winnebago and Omaha reservations).

Good old Oklahoma - I love the Sooner state. :)

I see one county went Kerry up in Kansas. Oh well, it was just one. Or check that, two?

No, Kansas has two. Pretty solid, too, and pretty large. :)

So we have:

100% Bush states: Oklahoma, Utah, Alaska
100% Kerry states: Massachussetts, Rhode Island, Hawaii

Is that correct?

Nebraska (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/NE/P/00/index.html) is also 100% red according to CNN.

But not according to Dave's map.

Could Dave be wrong?

Dave is only preliminary right now.  The final final numbers are not quite in yet.  I imagine he will fix everything once they are, if it is indeed not a blue county.

That was the closest county in the state in 2000. Everybody claims it swung rather heavily, but nobody agrees which way...odd.

EDIT: I remembered Dave's site to show a larger Kerry win than it does. 52-47, or 1120-1011, for Kerry sounds reasonable - and is what the Nebraska Secretary of State says, too.

Not necessarily.  The highest Indian population is in Adair County (just over 40%).  It is the blue hole on the left edge of the 1992 map.  The 3rd most Indian county is Delaware immediately to the north.

But yeah, many Oklahoma Indians vote Republican.
