Gerald Ford and Clinton did not have totally awful presidencies, but that was mainly due to the short timespan in the case of the first and the hostile Congress in the case of the second.

Gilded Age: Garfield/Arthur (I have a soft spot for James Garfield, but Arthur was pretty cool, too) New American Century: Taft (honorable mention for T. Roosevelt for his 1912 run) 1920's Republicans: Hoover (<3 PBrunsel) Post-War to Veitnam: Kennedy...? (what a good era!) Watergate: Carter ('cuz he's so much like I'd be if I were President) Reaganite: Bush 41 Information Age: Too early to judge. I urge all disaffected libruls who voted "Harrison" for the Jacksonian era to switch their vote to Zachary Taylor, a slaveholder who realized how seriously screwed up the South was that he ended up to the left of even many northerners on the issue by the time he died. Also, any librul who votes for Jackson is no librul at all. Title: Re: Best President by "Era" Post by: MASHED POTATOES. He's not really a Progressive Era/New American Century one either. A transitional figure. While the election of 1896 heralded the start of the Fourth Party System, he governed largely in a Gilded Age manner. In a very real sense, his assassination was the end of the Gilded Era and the beginning of the Progressive Era.
