All Actions by Haley Barbour (R-MS) for December 2010

Haley Barbour, under tha capacity of RGA chairman, makes a visit to New Jersey to meet with Governor Chris Christie, Christie's Cheif of Staff Richard Bagger, and NJ GOP State Chairman Jay Webber over lunch to discuss the growing role of the GOP in the state.  After lunch, Barbour and Christie tour a manafacturing plant in Trenton, NJ.  At the end of the tour Barbour makes a speech to the employees and members of the community who have come to hear:

"My top concern for the economy right now is creating quality jobs for the American people.  The Obama administration has done nothing to help the average, working-class American since he took office in 2009.  He's spent billions worth of borrowed money that has indebted future generations of Americans.  He did not extend all of the Bush-era tax cuts and most of all he has not provided the nessecary push that our economy needed to start growing again.  Let's make 2012 the last year for Obama's radical left-wing agenda by voting him out of office and putting a few more Republicans in govenor's seats across the country".

Later in the month, Haley Barbour speaks via video to troops stationed in Afghanistan on behalf of the RGA to deliver a Christmas message.  This is an excerpt from his message:

“On this Christmas, our nation remembers the men and women of our military, your friends and comrades who paid the ultimate price for our security and freedom. We ask for God's blessings on their families, their loved ones and their friends, and we pray for your safety and your strength, as you continue to defend America and to spread freedom.

Each one of you has answered a great call, participating in an historic moment in world history. You live by a code of honor, of service to your nation, with the safety and the security of your fellow citizens. Our military is full of the finest people on the face of the earth. Merry Christmas and may God bless you all.”

With that, the rest of the month for Barbour is pretty uneventful.  Except for his annual appearence at the RGA Christmas fundraising dinner. Also, there is growing impatience about knowing his plans for 2012.

Marsha Blackburn headlines a Republican fundraiser in Nashville, Tennessee, where she talks about the important of the party's, and nation's future...

We had moderately good results in the last election, am I right? More and more Americans are beginning to reject President Obama's liberal policies, and are looking to conservatism as a viable alternative. Friends, it's time we all unite as one party in order to give those concerned Americans a clear option. Whoever that candidate may be, it is vital that this candidate ha strong, conservative credentials and will be able to lead a strong campaign against Obama's policies, as well as offer solutions to the problems we're in.

I ask you all to consider donating to the Republican party, as well as the WedgePAC, a PAC I founded a couple years ago. This PAC has the goal of electing strong conservatives to various offices across the nation, regardless of political party. Together, we can shape the future into a stronger and safer one. Thank you, and God Bless!

()

After the debate, a reporter approached Congresswoman Blackburn...

Reporter: Ms. Blackburn, do you have the intention of running for President of America?
Blackburn: Right now, I'm keeping all options open. I think it's extremely important that a strong, common-sense conservative is nominated to this party. I'll have to pray with my family and friends about it before making any big decisions.

Mitt Romney makes a campaign tour of Illinois.  In the morning, about 10:00 A.M., he is met at the Chicago airport by Republican State Senate leader Christine Radogno, and a large crowd of supporters and well wishers, holding ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT signs.

Radogno:  I am pleased to be here today to greet Governor Mitt Romney.  Governor Romney brings to this race outstanding qualifications as a proven leader in both the private and public sectors.  Governor Romney.

Romney:  Thank you very much Christine.  And thank you all for coming here today.  America faces a crisis in leadership.  The Obama administraion has ran America's economy into the ground.  Unemployment rates stand at unacceptable levels.  America's economic position in the world continues to decline.  We are not keeping pace in today's changing world.  Well, I can tell you, for the sake of this nation, and for the sake of our children and grandchildren, things have to change, and when I am in the White House, they will.  I will restore fiscal integrity and responsibility to the leadership of our nation.

In the afternoon, Romney proceeds to go on a Chicago radio station, then a television station, for interviews.

In the evening, Romney makes a major address on the ecnomy and his proposals to revitalize the nation's economy, to the Chicago Board of Trade.

Marsha Blackburn headlines a traditional marriage rally in Knoxville, Tennessee...

Thank you! Welcome to this historic city, and welcome, all, to Tennessee! This is a great state, and I'm proud to be a representative of it.

Today there are some people who are trying to establish one religion: the religion of secularism.
They want to reject our nation's traditional values, and reject the values of our founders, casting aside the wisdom of the ages. Activist judges from across the nation are striking down something extremely important to America: the family.

Even in our schools, we have elementary school teacher's read to their second graders from a book titled "The King and the King," about a prince who marries a prince . What's even more disheartening, is that a second grader's father is denied the right to have his child taken out of that classroom while the book is being read. The government is truly taking advantage of the situation by spoon-feeding our children into believe same-sex marriage should be accepted.

States like Massachusetts and California are battling over same-sex marriage, but unless we adopt a federal amendment to protect marriage, what's happening there will unquestionably enter every other state. This spreading secular religion cannot be allowed to weaken the foundation of the family, or the faith of our fathers who loved their country even more than they loved there life.

Thank you all, you have been amazing! God Bless!

Marsha Blackburn appears on Anderson Cooper 360, where she vigilantly argues against Obamacare...

Quote
We're concerned also that there are lessons learned from public option health care plans that maybe are not being heeded. And certainly in my state of Tennessee, we were the test case for public option health care in 1994. And our Democrat government has even cautioned that maybe our experiences there would provide some lessons learned that should be heeded and would provide guidance for us to go forward.

And as you said, what we should be doing is tossing old ideas out, bad ideas out, and moving forward and refining good ideas. And certainly we would welcome that opportunity.

So my question to the President is when will we look forward to starting anew and sitting down with you to put all of these ideas on the table, to look at these lessons learned, to benefit from that experience, and to produce a product that is going to reduce government interference, reduce cost and be fair to the American taxpayer?

I mean, the fact of the matter is that if you vote with the administration on something, are politically vulnerable in your own base, in your own party. You've given yourselves very little room to work in a bipartisan fashion because what you've been telling your constituents is, "This guy's doing all kinds of crazy stuff that's going to destroy America."

Marsha Blackburn hosts a rally in Arlington, Virginia, where she is accompanied by Governor Bob McDonnell...

In Washington, America has created a perfect job-killing storm, with more government control and higher taxes. It's time for Republicans to have a leader who will stand up to the liberal policies being implemented under the Obama administration. It's time that both the Tea Party and the Republican party come together and end an error in America's history.

Today, I'm announcing my candidacy for President of the United States.
I am excited to get the chance to meet with thousands of Americans over the next few months. I am excited to hear your stories and will take those stories all the way to the White House, where I will implement the policies that can put American's dreams in motion again.

The next few months won't be easy, and our road to the White House won't be a smooth ride. I'm proud to embrace the underdog status, and I'm also proud to be able to add even more cracks in that thick glass ceiling. Hopefully we can finally break the darn thing! I look forward to an amazing ride, where Americans can learn more about myself, my husband Chuck, and my two beautiful children, Mary Morgan and Chad. Thank you, and God Bless!!!

()

Bob McDonnell walks up to the microphone...

If I may, Marsha, I'd also like to say a couple of words. *crowd laughs* I'm proud to endorse Marsha Blackburn for President, because I believe she represents what the Republican party is truly about: Smart, fiscal conservatism. I look forward to campaigning with Marsha and her family over the next few months, and with Virginia now being a leadoff state, hopefully we can deliver her a victory on primary day!

Governor Mitch Daniels (R-IN) appears at Indianapolis in front of thousands of eager Hoosiers:

"I've said before that you couldn't get me back to Washington, D.C. if you forced me to go at gunpoint. But now I'm changing my belief - I think it's Washington that's holding America hostage, and that someone needs to go there and stop it.

That person might as well be me. I have decided that I am a candidate for President of the United States.

I can not sit idly by as America's future is drowned in debts, taxes, and false commitments made by the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama. America can not keep tumbling down this path toward a banana republic. We have to re-assert ourselves as a world power, and I believe that nobody is in a better position to do that than I am.

We've done some truly monumental work here in the Hoosier State. Now let's bring Indiana's conservative fiscal policies to Washington. Come and help - it will be worth it!!!

Many prominent females endorse Ms. Blackburn from across the nation...

I'm ready to break that glass ceiling, and not only do I think Marsha is capable of doing that, but I also think she is the most qualified candidate in this race and will bring back conservative values to the White House, which is why I'm proud to endorse her.
- Congresswoman Michele Bachmann

I've had the privilege of working with her in the House several times, and I know my fellow Tennessean will make a great President!
- Congresswoman Diane Black

Marsha Blackburn's stances on the issues is what attracts me to her. She's going to be a tough lady in there, and will do us proud. I'm proud to endorse her.
- Senator Kelly Ayotte

America is truly lucky to have such a great candidate in this race, and I will personally do everything I can to help Represenatative Blackburn take the state of Colorado.
- Former Lt. Governor Jane Norton

Wow...It's so great to see such an amazing conservative woman seeking the nation's highest office. I look forward to helping Marsha throughout this campaign, and I'm excited about her candidacy. I endorse her heartily, because I know she will govern with integrity and honesty.
- Former Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell

Sarah Palin also weighs in, but doesn't give an official endorsement yet...

I'll have to step back and see who all is running. I realize my endorsement could potentially carry a lot of weight, so I'm not going to rush into it. There are some very good candidates out there like Governor Daniels and Congresswoman Blackburn. I'm confident though that Republicans will wisely select a true conservative as our nominee.
- Sarah Palin

Governor Romney makes a campaign stop in Trenton, New Jersey, attracting thousands of enthusiastic supporters and well wishers.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm Chris Christie, Governor of the greatest state in the union, New Jersey, and I am here today to throw my support behind the next President of the United States, Mitt Romney.  Mitt knows how to rescue America from the fiscal disaster that Obama and the big spending Democrats have gotten this nation into.  Mitt has a proven record of accomplishment.  As Governor of Massachusetts, he attacked the state deficit head on and won.  My friends, he will do the same for this nation.  America needs Mitt's leadership at this crucial time.

Mitt is the only candidate with the experience, record, and qualifications that can take on this nation's challenges and overcome them.  Other candidates may promise results, but Mitt is really the only candidate who has the qualifications, the experience, the gravitas, and the only candidate who has actually delivered results.  That is why I stand one hundred percent behind Mitt Romney for President.  Governor Romney.

Cheering.

Thank you Governor for that great welcome.  Man it's great to be here in the great state of New Jersey.  (Cheers)  What a great audience.  Thank you for coming here today.  America stands today at a crisis point.  Our fiscal house is teetering on the brink of disaster.  It is going to take strong and effective fiscal management to bring this nation back to prosperity and to finally end these record unemployment rates, and create jobs and opportunities for Americans all across this land.  My pledge to you and to this nation is that, as President, I will restore our economy to prosperity and that my administration will have as it's number one priority jobs, jobs, jobs.  Jobs, good jobs, meaningful jobs for Americans.

Under my administration, one of the few unemployed Americans in this nation will be Barack Obama.

Cheering and laughter.

Together, we can make this nation great again.  Join with me my friends, join with me in making America great again.

Thank you and let's get to work.

Raucous cheering.

Marsha Blackburn heads up to Scranton, Pennsylvania where she is endorsed by Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey...

America is at a crucial hour. We have an opportunity to take back the Senate as well as expand on our majority in the House. But what we must win, is the Presidency. We cannot afford to continue down the socialist road President Obama is leading us. We need a clear alternative in this election; a true conservative voice. That candidate is Marsha Blackburn, and I am pleased and honored to endorse her today. I have no doubt that under a Blackburn administration, America will be seeing much better days than the ones we've been seeing.

Today, President Barack Obama announced he'll seek reelection. This means that the President is asking Americans to give him four more years to let this nation spiral out of control with insurmountable spending and a government takeover. We can't let that happen, and we need a leader who will stop it! That's why I'm endorsing Marsha Blackburn, and I encourage all North Carolinians to get on board her campaign!

Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi is set to address a crowd of some 5,000 Mississippians from the steps of the State Capitol Building in beautiful, historic Downtown Jackson, MS.  He steps to the microphone and delivers the following speech:

“Friends, neighbors, and fellow Americans I come to you today to deliver a speech that will, hopefully, mark an end to an era in this country.  For the past four years, Americans have been at the mercy of one of the most liberal Presidents this country has ever known.  In the past four years, this President has increased our national debt by over one trillion dollars, this President and his buddies in Congress have passed unpopular Health and Energy bills, and the President who have failed to revitalize our economy.  Now this President is seeking reelection and wants you, the voter, to give it to him.

I stand here today to say no more!  It is time to return to the values that have made our country great before and can make our country great again.  It is time to return to the common-sense economic policy that says ‘you can’t prop up the economy on borrowed money’.  While the American economy has continued to struggle, President Obama has been spending hundreds of billions of dollars which has only allowed our international competitors to fly by us in the ever-changing world economy.  In a generation or two, our children and grandchildren will not be paying taxes to Uncles Sam, but instead will be paying taxes to satisfy Chinese and Indian creditors.  How does this economic policy make sense?

Not only does Obama want to spend money that isn’t ours, he also wants to nickel-and-dime the American people out of having a chance.  Under this administration, taxes (either directly or indirectly) have increased on every single American.  Later last year, the Democrats in congress lat the Bush tax cuts expire for some Americans.  Taxes have also increased on small businesses, mainly due to the new health care policy which requires them to face strict fines if they don’t provide their employees with health insurance.

The bottom line is, the Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Geithner/Bernanke monetary policy hasn’t worked!  And it won’t work!  Why don’t we start by lowering our spending.  Stop spending money on failed stimulus and government take-overs of the health care industry?  We also need to lower taxes, taxes are the oppressive force of government pushing down the brow of the laborer.  We need to especially lower taxes on small businesses, this way we would put more money in the hands of business owners, allowing them to hire more workers and supply more jobs!  To me, this just seems elementary.

I know what your saying, your saying ’this is all find and dandy, Haley, but we need someone to directly challenge Obama and stand for true conservative principles’.  I understand, the American people need leadership.  That is why, today, before you I announce by candidacy for President of the United States of America as a Republican.
(riotous applause)

I stand for the true conservative principles that have made this country great.  I respect myself, my country, and God and as President I will work diligently on the behalf of every single American.  Now, let’s hit the campaign trail!!!”

After Barbour’s remarks, former Mississippi Senator and Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (who was at the event) speaks: It is with great honor and enthusiasm that I endorse Haley Barbour for President of the United States.  I believe that of all of the announced Republican candidates, he has the best ability to lead this country to greatness.  I will be working with him on the campaign trail up until the very end, and I wish him the best of luck. ‘

Rudy Giuliani, who addresses the crowd from New York via video, says: I would also like to endorse Haley Barbour for President in 2012.  Ever since becoming the governor of Mississippi in 2003, I have had the privilege to get to know him and work with him.  In fact, in 2008, if I had won the GOP nomination, I would have most selected Governor Barbour as my running mate (chuckles).  I will be working closely with Haley Barbour and his campaign over the next few months.

After the speech, Haley Barbour attends a fundraising event for his campaign sponsored by the Mississippi Republican Party.  He also schedules appearances on Meet the Press, FOX News Sunday, and Larry King Live.

Later, Haley Barbour’s website for his PAC becomes his official campaign website (www.HaleyBarbour2012.org).  On the website he announces his official campaign slogan, “Barbour: The Time is Now”.  He also announces through his campaign manager, former White House employee Rhonda Keenum, that he will begin a month-long tour of CO, IN, NJ, and VA.

BARBOUR’S TRIP TO COLORADO:

Haley Barbour begins his four-state tour in Colorado.  He hosts several town hall meetings, answering questions asked by the participants.  His largest town hall meetings are those in Littleton, Arvada, Boulder, Greely, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Grand Junction, and Craig.

At these town hall events Haley Barbour stresses his conservative credentials and executive experience saying:

“I was elected Governor of a state in which the Democratic Party controlled more than 60% of the seats every single year, yet I still managed to get my conservative message across to the electorate and the legislature.  I responded quickly and satisfactorily to both Hurricane Katrina and 2010 Gulf Oil Spill.  Also, I worked to offset Mississippi’s budget deficit and refunded the Rainy Day Fund. I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but that‘s a pretty good resume”

Also in Colorado, Haley Barbour speaks at a Tea Party meeting in Denver.  He says:

“On ideologically grounds, I do not associate myself with the Tea Party.  However, I do believe in some principles that the Tea Party stands for and those include lower spending and taxation, smaller government, and a ‘hands-off’ approach to economics”.

While conducting an interview with KUSA, Denver’s largest television station, he is asked about his experience working as a tobacco lobbyist (an issue that has come up frequently throughout his political career).  He responds:

“The next president on January 20, 2013 is going to start lobbying, He's going to be lobbying Congress, he's going to be lobbying other countries. He's going to be lobbying the business community. He's going to be lobbying the labor unions, the governors, because that's what presidents do, and I feel like it's an advantage for me to have the chance to do that."

While in Colorado Springs, Barbour also speaks to the National Rifle Association of Colorado saying:

“I believe that the most essential amendment to our Constitution is the Right to Bear Arms.  For no man can be free from oppression, both domestic and foreign, unless he can arm himself.”

Barbour also spends an afternoon building houses in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity in Pueblo.  After the events he speaks of the importance of charity and community interest, and lays out a possible proposal for welfare reform which includes a large increase in tax breaks for charitable donations and community service.

He concludes his Colorado visit by speaking to the Colorado Republican Party at a fundraising party in Denver.  He says:

“Over the past few days, I have gotten to know the people of Colorado at a level that I thought I never would.  I have learned that they face very real struggles and very harsh realities.  They are upset with the way that our government has been conducting itself for the past couple of years, and they want to take back their rightful place in this democracy.  I tell the people of Colorado that they stand for a noble cause, and so do I.”

At the end of Barbour’s speech, Colorado Senator Ken Buck addresses the crowd:

“I have come here to tonight to endorse Haley Barbour for president of the United States.  I believe that Haley has the know-how, the intuition, and morals needed to win the Republican Nomination and go on to defeat Obama.  However, most of all he has the ability to govern this great nation and lead it to brighter, better days.  I plan on staying on contact with Mr. Barbour throughout his campaign and will be helping him with the campaign here in Colorado.”

Governor Mitch Daniels makes a trip to Virginia:

"I believe that Americans have a choice to make. To put it bluntly, they need to choose between socialism and freedom. To put it even more bluntly, they need to choose between Barack Obama and a principled, responsible leader.

I believe that I am that leader. Look at what we've done her in Indiana - we expanded health insurance with the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) via private health savings accounts. We've had a balanced budget for every year I've been in office. We have charter schools and students are learning more and more effectively. WE HAVE NEVER RAISED TAXES. We've capped property taxes, permanently, at 1-3% for all payers. And we've reduced corruption by reforming the congressional redistricting process.

I have the kind of record a good leader needs - more importantly, I have done the things in Indiana that need to be done in the United States of America. We need fiscal responsibility and tax cuts. We need freedom, not Obama brand socialism.

Newt Gingrich, on his website, officially endorses Haley Barbour for President of the United States.

Gingrich:
“I hereby endorse Haley Barbour for President of the United States.  I know that campaign season just started, but I believe that Haley Barbour’s attributes make him very qualified to be the next president.  Haley Barbour’s conservative credentials resonate with the party base and he knows how to wage a good campaign against Obama next fall.  I plan on appearing with him in public shortly, and we have already planned several speaking events together”

Ron Paul travels to New Jersey for a campaign speech. In brief:

When he was elected, Obama promised change. Well, I don't see any change! I see the same corporatist agenda that the Bush Administration pursued! I want to offer America real change! A return to the principles of our founding fathers! No entangling alliances, no foreign occupations, no nation building! An economy with a balanced budget, with our debt lower than the trillions it is at today!

The next stop on Haley Barbour’s four state tour is Illinois.

He arrives at Chicago’s Midway Airport early one morning and is greeted by a crowd of campaign supporters and concerned members of the community.  Before deporting for more campaign events, Barbour makes an unplanned announcement to the group that has assembled.

”I would to thank the people of Chicago for their warm welcome.  The polls say that I’m polling at less than one percent in Illinois, but I believe that after campaigning here over the next few months the people of Illinois will see me for what I truly am: a bonafied, concerned conservative who is fighting to retake control of America from the big-government Obama regime.”

After his impromptu speech at the airport, Haley Barbour attends a business lunch with David A. Herron and his associates at CHX Holdings Inc. (who own the Chicago Stock Exchange).  The breakfast is not open to the press, but apparently Barbour and the CHX associates discuss business matters relating to the newly passed Financial Reform bill.  He concludes his breakfast by speaking to the investors on the floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange only a few minutes after the opening bell:

“President Obama has done nothing to stabilize the American economy ever since he took office in 2009, he and his buddies in Washington have only temporarily pacified the business community by handing bailouts.  However, these bailouts increased the nation debt and are now leading to a decline in the value of the American dollar.  How can Obama expect American businesses to compete in today’s international business market if the money that our nation produces isn’t worth the paper its printed on?  Obama and the Democrats have also suffocated the American business community under their new finance laws.  Mr. Obama, how can you expect our businesses to succeed if you surround them with miles-and-miles of regulatory red tape.  The Obama economic policies make no sense.  In voting for me, you are voting for a clear alternative to these failed policies.  I propose that we reduce the amount of regulation on our businesses, which will allow them to flourish in the ever-changing global economy.”

Barbour’s speech to the C.S.E. is well-received.

Barbour’s next stop is a Town Hall meeting in Rolling Meadows, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago).  The main purpose of this town hall is health care.  Governor Barbour delivers the following words:

[/i]“If elected president, I will work with the Congress to make sure that we repeal the Obama-led takeover of the health care industry that was adopted in March 2010.  Obamacare was a step in the wrong direction.  I believe that we can achieve health care reform and near universal coverage, but we can do it through encouraging competition among health insurance providers.  However, the most important we need to do is encourage the people of this nation to make healthier lifestyle choices.  As governor of Mississippi, I started the ‘Let’s Go Walking, Mississippi’ campaign, made physical education a compulsory requirement for all children in Mississippi public schools, made school lunches healthier, and through a series of public service announcements encouraged Mississippians to become more health conscious.  As a result, recent research shows that rates of obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease are all starting to fall in Mississippi.  We need to start doing this at the national level.” [/i]

Barbour spends the rest of his afternoon attending several events, including a stop to help work at a soup kitchen at a church in Arlington Heights, a tea party rally in Joliet, and speaking to some 500 students and 1,000 community members at North Central College in Naperville, IL.

()

Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday arrives in Chicago later in the evening to conduct an interview with Haley Barbour:

Wallace: On behalf of all of us on Fox News Sunday, I would like to welcome you, Mr. Barbour, to the show.

Barbour: Thank you, its very nice to be here and have a chance to get out my message to the people of this great nation.

Wallace: So, first things first Haley…why did you decide on running for president?

Barbour: The decision to run for president was not an easy one for me, Chris.  The truth is, Chris, I almost decided to run in 2008--

Wallace: Well, why didn’t you?

Barbour: I realized that my first priority was to be the Governor of Mississippi.  In 2007, I had just be reelected as governor and I felt it was my duty to serve in the role.  Also, my wife didn’t want me to then! (chuckles)

Wallace:  Back to question, so, why did you choose to run this year?

Barbour: Like I said, the decision was not an easy one to make.  However, after I saw how the American people voted in the 2010 midterm elections my decision was pretty much clear.  It was apparent that the American people had rejected the Obama/Pelosi/Reid policies and were looking for a return to government by the people, for the people, and of the people.  That’s why I decided to run.  I believe that Obama and his Democratic friends have taken this nation on a borderline-Socialist veer to the left, and the American people have rejected that.  I’m running to give those Americans a clear choice.

Wallace: So believe that you best represent the voters who are fed up with the Obama agenda?

Barbour: That’s what I would like to believe.  I stand for smart, fiscal-conservatism and I think the voters will reward me at the ballot box come their respective primary days.

Wallace: What’s your opinions of the other Republican candidates; specifically Marsha Blackburn and Romney?

Barbour:  I have a great deal of respect for both Representative Blackburn and former governor Romney.  They have both stood up for what they believe in and are respectable candidates.  However, I think that Ms. Blackburn might be just a bit to inexperienced to be ready for the highest office in the land.  She has less experience than Obama had in 2008, only serving as representative for about 8 years.  Romney, I think, might just be a bit too liberal for the mainstream Republican Party and I question his stances on health care, gay marriage, and some other issues key to winning against Obama this year.  However, it’s not my job to judge the candidates.  It will be up to the voters to ultimately decide.

Wallace: Thank you so much for being hear, ladies and gentlemen: Haley Barbour.

Barbour: Thank you.

Barbour spends the rest of his time in Illinois at various town halls and rallies (both for himself and the Tea Party).  He stops at town halls in Oak Lawn, Aurora, Crystal Lake, Rockford, Moline, Joliet, Peoria, Bloomington, Champaign, Decatur,  Belleville, and Carbondale.  He concludes his Illinois visit in Springfield where he is endorsed by Illinois governor Bill Brady.

Brady: After having the opportunity to see what Governor Barbour truly stands for, I officially endorse him for President of the United States.  I encourage all Illinoisans to support Mr. Barbour is he campaign for U.S. president.  I will be staying touch with him and will continue campaigning for him throughout the state up until primary day.

Governor Mitch Daniels stops in Chicago:

"I'd like to thank Chicagoans and Illinoisans for their warm welcome tonight! I just want to say a few things right off the bat - Illinois and Indiana are doing pretty well. With respect to the economy, both Indiana and Illinois's unemployment rates are under 10%. Neither of our states have raised taxes, and both of our states have had balanced budgets for a good long time. I want to keep it that way in Illinois and Indiana, and all across the county. Fiscal conservatism is the way we have to go to avoid the Obamanites from pummeling our economy to death."

Governor Daniels' next stop was in Peoria:

"Abraham Lincoln made a stand for reform right here in 1860. He stood against the evils of divisions and slavery. Now, America's evils are not as severe as they were then, but we are divided. America is divided between those who want to continue on this treacherous path towards debt, deficit, and the dissolution of freedoms with ObamaCare, and those who want to get our fiscal house in order and maintain the freedoms the founders gave us."

Governor Daniels gives a FOX News Sunday interview after Governor Haley Barbour is finished:

WALLACE: Thank you for being here, Governor Daniels.

DANIELS: Thanks, Chris. I really enjoy being here at FOX.

WALLACE: So, Governor, you have made statements before that seem very anti-political: in a 2008 ad you said that Governor of Indiana was the only elected office you have held and the only one you ever will hold; you have said before that someone couldn't send you back to Washington at gunpoint; and you've called D.C. a "hellhole" and a "wolf-pit." Why the change of heart now?

DANIELS: Well, Chris, over the last three years in the Obama Administration, I have seen America abused terribly. First, we're on a rapid road toward another Depression, what with 10%+ unemployment rates; second, we've got ObamaCare, which is a disaster waiting to happen; and we're simply unsafe when it comes to Iran, North Korea, and terrorism. I feel that America needs to go in a different direction, a better one, and I'm the best person to do that. Just look at my record as Gov -

WALLACE: Tell us about your record as Governor...?

DANIELS: Well, Indiana has had a balanced budget every year since 2005 (the year I first took office) and we've never raised taxes once. We remained fiscally sound even during the beginning of the recession. Indiana has improved healthcare with the Healthy Indiana Plan, or HIP, which includes private retirement accounts. We've also improved education, with charter schools.

WALLACE: How about the Indiana Toll Road?

DANIELS: Look at the benefits of globalization and how many jobs we've brought to impoverished nations like Mexico through NAFTA. I support globalization as I think that it's important to support developing nations. Not give them a crutch, no, no, no, but to work with them to cooperatively increase their economic benefit.

WALLACE: What do you think of your opponents, Congresswoman Blackburn, and Governors Huckabee, Romney, and Barbour?

DANIELS: I think that Congresswoman Blackburn is a wonderful woman and a true conservative. I think that Governors Huckabee, Romney, and Barbour have been very effective in their tenure and would be wonderful Presidents. It's just that I think I would be a better one (laughs).

WALLACE (laughing): Well, we'll see about that Governor. Thanks for being with us tonight.

DANIELS: My pleasure, Chris. Thank you.

This is CNN with breaking news.

In a shocking turn of events on the campaign trail, just moments ago, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has withdrawn from the Presidential race.

In an emotional appearance, Governor Romney stated that he was withdrawing from the race for personal reasons, explaining that his wife Ann's MS condition had taken a turn for the worse, and that he would be dedicating his time to looking after her, stating

My priorities are to look after my dear wife Ann, who needs me now more than ever before.  As I take my leave of public life, I wish to thank all those who have supported me over these many years.  I trust that my many supporters in this campaign will not feel that I have let them down, but will understand that  my responsibilities are now to help Ann through this difficult time.

Romney, the leading candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination, and the only Republican polls show currently beating President Obama in an election, also made the following surprise statement.

I am not making any endorsements, and I know there are several fine and capable candidates seeking the Republican Presidential nomination,  but I believe that Marsha Blackburn has the qualities that would enable her to become an effective President.

This is CNN.

Marsha: Honestly, Dave, I had no idea. I'm simply floored. This is great for our campaign, but it's disappointing that the Governor had to drop out.
Advisor: This could really give us momentum. After his wife starts to get better, if we could possibly get him to make an appearence with us, we'd be golden.
Marsha: Let's plan some visits in the Northeast. With Mitt's exit, we have a real shot there.

"We need to end our wars of aggression! America needs to get out of Afghanistan! America needs to abandon our bases in Iraq entirely! By remaining in these countries, we offer the terrorists reasons to attack us!" Was Ron Paul's statement on foreign policy, an issue he has been pressing heavily in the Northeast,  as well as an end to the Federal Reserve.

Furthermore, Senator Rand Paul, Gary Johnson, and Barry Goldwater Jr. have all announced their support of Ron Paul.

Ron Paul also mentioned that while he disagreed with Romney heavily on his policies, he wished him luck in his personal life and announced that he prays for Anne's survival.

Jeff Bingaman holds a "Hearing the American Voice" town-hall meeting in Carson City, Nevada. He is introduced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Thank you all for having me. It's great to be here, and I thank Senator Reid for being such an excellent host.

In 2001, America started on a downward spiral. In just months, President Bush managed to wipe away the surplus left by Clinton. By the end of his second term, America was in heavy debt. Now, President Obama has been forced to spend us into even more debt to fix the many problems that President Bush left us! I'm deeply concerned about the future of this government. I'm a Democrat, and I'm a liberal. But that doesn't mean I support the reckless spending by both Bush and Obama administrations, and it doesn't mean I think having a mounting national debt is a good thing. It's time to give some money back to the people, reign in government spending, and get the government working for the people again.

Recently, President Obama made a stop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, my home state. Hopefully he spend lavishly there, like he has elsewhere, because New Mexico sure could use some help! (crowd laughs) I have a major concern when we have an administration that has spent so much government money on personal matters. Not just him, but his entire family. I sincerely hope that if Obama is re-elected, he spends less his second term across the board. It's simply embarrassing.

Continuing on his tour, Jeff Bingaman visits the state of Arizona, accompanied by his wife, Anne. They make multiple stops throughout the states, and hold their first rally in Tucson...

It's simply a blessing to see so many excited faces out there! I am the luckiest one of all though. I have been blessed to hear the stories of so many Americans over the past few days, and I'm very enthusiastic about taking those stories back to Capital Hill. I've learned that Americans are tired of the corruption that has plagued our national government, and are ready for common-sense solutions. It's time we reform our welfare system, secure our borders, and secure jobs here in America, not encouraging them to go overseas like Republicans have been doing.

Recently, Obama accused me of making this race personal by bringing his family into it. I'm sorry he took it that way, but what he's doing is wrong. Americans from all over are having to cut back. While many are bypassing their yearly vacation this summer, President Obama continues to spend. Americans are struggling due to the  the economic foundation both Bush and Obama have laid. I simply believe if everyone else is having to cut back, why shouldn't the President too?

We are now reporting that Senator Jeff Bingaman from the state of New Mexico has begun planning a challenge to President Obama for the Democratic nomination. He has reportedly hired several notable Democratic strategists, and has apparently scheduled events in Virginia, Illinois, and Colorado in the coming days, all three being lead-off states.

This is CNN...

We now take you to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Democratic Senator Jeff Bingaman is expected to announce that he will be challenging President Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination. On stage with the Senator is colleague's Barbara Boxer, Harry Reid, and Tom Udall. Former Governor Bill Richardson is also on stage...

I'd like to thank all of you for joining us here today. It means so much to me to officially announce my candidacy in New Mexico, the state I have served for in the United States Senate and the state whose primary I plan on winning on my way to becoming the next President of the United States!

The United States faces huge challenges, but we also have huge opportunities. I am running for President because these times call for a leader with a proven track record, and a demonstrated ability to bring people together to tackle our problems at home and abroad.

In 2008, I was a supporter of Barack Obama. I believed in the change he promised. However, this administration has been filled with disappointment after disappointment. America continues to suffer from high unemployment numbers, a growing deficit, an education system that continues to get passed by other nations, and a weak border. I believe the liberal policies touted by great leaders such as Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Bill Clinton do work. However, they must be implemented properly.

Out of control spending is not a solution, which our President seems to think. It is a growing problem. We cannot afford to let our children be placed in increasing debt, and at the rate we're going, they're going to be faced with tough decisions.

Some may ask why I'm running. President Obama is liberal enough, and polls have me down. Well here's your answer: I'm running because I am sick and tired of the political games being played in Washington. I'm tired of drinking the kool-aid. And I believe it is time for liberals to stand up to our incompetent President and say enough is enough! It's time for real liberal leadership, not what we've faced for the last few years. I'm running for President to be that leader, and I ask for your support. Thank you, and God Bless!

Senators Warner, Feinstein, and Durbin all quickly come out in support of President Obama, who, upon hearing of Senator Bingaman's decision, gives a speech to Albany, New York:

Quote
I welcome Senator Bingaman into the race; he is a good man, and I am sure he will run an honorable campaign.  The Senator mentioned Franklin Roosevelt, that great New Yorker.  Let me be clear; my campaign will follow in the footsteps of President Roosevelt, far more closely than Senator Bingaman.  I stand by the tenets of the New Deal; Senator Bingaman does not.  He is a principled man, but his principles are more in line with Ronald Reagan than Franklin Roosevelt.

Thursday: Illinois, Tennessee, Virginia
Friday: New Jersey, Delaware, New York

Senator Jeff Bingaman holds a rally in Boulder City, Nevada, where he responds to recent comments made by President Obama...

When Franklin D. Roosevelt sat down and envisioned America's future, I'm sure that he did not envision one that included a skyrocketing debt. The New Deal was brilliant, and brought America back to life. But President Roosevelt also understand that some cuts needs to be made, and spending had to be curved. I'm also sure Roosevelt didn't freely spend government money like Obama has been doing for personal expenses.

America can continue down the same path that President Bush and President Obama have taken us down. Or we can go down a new path, with smart liberal policies. Let's reform Obamacare at a fraction of the cost. There are great parts in that bill, and I'm proud to have voted for it. But some improvement can be made. Let's cut earmark spending out of our legislation, and ban lobbyists from being present when voting occurs. We have to get this nation working again for the people, not the government!

At a rally in Boulder, Colorado, Senator Mark Udall joins the Bingaman campaign...

The fact is, I'm tired of wasteful spending. While I believe some spending is good, as well as the social programs that come with it, I think the way this government is spending is atrocious. It's not liberal, it's socialist. I'm ready for some real, common-sense liberal leadership in the White House. If people actually think the policies Barack Obama are implementing are liberal policies, our kind of people will die out really quickly. That's why I've decided to endorse a real liberal, Jeff Bingaman. He'll take America back to the days before Bush and Obama when we had a surplus. I ask Colorado to stand beside me in support of Bingaman.

Bill Clinton speaks on behalf of Senator Bingaman at a rally in Lexington, Kentucky...

One thing President Obama needs to learn really quick is that passing a hefty spending bill in the midst of a recession is not wise. In 2010, America lost faith in Barack Obama, and it's time for him to start working to make bi-partisan solutions and take out the problems in the health care bill. There are good things about the bill, but there are also a lot of bad things.

I also have to question the integrity and character of a man who is calling on his opponent to drop out before there's been a single contest. President Obama, there is another 5 months until the first primary, and I suggest you get to campaigning before even more Democrats lose faith in you. The polls are closing, and they will continue to close. Kentucky, I ask you to vote for the candidate that is fighting for you, not the government. I ask you to vote for Jeff Bingaman!

Senator Jeff Bingaman releases a radio ad, which will be airing in all leadoff states as well as much of the southwest.

Bingaman: America is at a crossroads. Our economy is in shambles, families are struggling to get by, and it seems, to many, as if we have lost our way.

After four years of failed policies and politics that have focused on dividing our nation rather than bringing it together, America is ready for a change.

America needs real leadership that will grow our economy, get Americans back to work and ensure that the American Dream is an attainable reality once again.

I realize that we need real help for the middle class and no matter how much Barack Obama wants to stretch the truth, my pledge is and always has been that I'll cut taxes on middle class families.

I realize that we need to create jobs here at home, so I pledge to end tax incentives that encourage businesses to send jobs overseas and I'll create incentives that creates new and good paying jobs here at home.

I realize that we can't fix all of our problems overnight, but I pledge to work day in and day out to propose solutions for those problems so that the American family can thrive once again.

My name is Jeff Bingaman and I want your support because I know, this election, we can usher in a new American renewal.

Senator Bingaman releases a television ad which will air in all leadoff states:

Someone Like Me

(The ad opens with an image of a woman walking with her son to school.)

WOMAN: Tommy was afraid to walk to school. I didn’t know what to do and I was desperate. In my desperation, I started making calls. Before I knew it, Senator Bingaman called me back. He worked together with the school district, and today the school and the street leading to it are safer than ever before. I’m voting for Jeff Bingaman because he understood what we needed, and he went to work for someone like me.

(The scene shifts and shows a truck driver speaking as he walks to his truck.)

MAN: I had been out of work for a year and I couldn’t get access to any training funds to help. I had been out of work for a year and nobody was willing to help. I went to one of Jeff's town hall events and told my story. I was getting ready to leave, and someone told me the Senator wanted to see me. The next day, I was told that funding for driving school had been found. I’m voting for Senator Bingaman because, when the chips were down, he didn’t forget about someone like me.

(The scene shifts and shows a young female teacher in the classroom.)

YOUNG WOMAN: Over the last six months, we’ve paid more for our health care than ever before. During that time, my husband lost his job and we’ve seen our benefits cut in half. Without being prompted, my Senator visited our classroom and talked with the other teachers and I about what he was doing to fight for education, and for the benefits we had earned. Why am I voting for Jeff Bingaman? Because he understands the lives and the challenges of someone like me.

(The scene shifts and shows Jeff Bingaman looking into the camera.)

BINGAMAN: Hi, I'm Jeff, and I’m asking for your support on Election Day. The issues I’ve talked about in this campaign are more than campaign rhetoric – they come out of my own experience. I’m the proud son of middle class parents and the life I’ve lived is a testament to the American dream, a dream I want to fight to make available to everyone who is willing to work hard and play by the rules. Your story is my story, and if you agree with me, then I would be honored to have your support.

I’m Jeff Bingaman, and you better believe I approve that message.

Senator Bingaman spends the day in Hilton Head, South Carolina with his family. When pressed by reporters to answer questions, Senator Bingaman simply says "This is family time for me, and I want the press to stay out of my family time."
