I'm not worried about this race though. New York is a very Dem state, but the GOP does have pockets of strength and in the right conditions a GOP candidate has a shot. New Yorkers will support a GOP candidate if they are moderate (ok... not this time) and have, well, some balls (aka D'Amato, Pataki...) I think Hillary only beat Lazio (no super star candidate, to be sure) by about Given this is a GOP year, I can buy a 10 point lead. Either this is a weird sample or maybe Cuomo/Gillibrand won't win by the huge margins this year that I expected them to.

In New York, that probably would be a net plus, especially among independents and Democrats. Besides, who are Republicans going to vote for instead? The final margin was 12 points.
