Title: Kerry-isms
Post by: StevenNick on March 18, 2004, 01:01:22 AM
Here's a good one I found in a David Brooks column:

"There is not a right or wrong here.  There was a correctness in the president's judgment about timing.  But that does not mean there was an incorrectness in the judgment other people make about timing."

That's John Kerry on the first Gulf War.

"I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it."

Here's one from an interview John Kerry did with the Humane society that I found on the NRO blog:

HUMANE SOCIETY: "Do you have any pets that have made an impact on you personally?"

KERRY: "When I was serving on a swiftboat in Vietnam, my crewmates and I had a dog we called VC..."

Does this man ever stop talking about Vietnam?

It was a question about a frigging pet and he managed to mention his Vietnam service.  What a louse!

I don't remember the exact quote, but after we got Saddam, JFK said something like "I'm glad we got him, but we need to do more about AIDS." No page break, no period. Perhaps a comma.

Steven,

Because of his voting record in the Senate, Kerry has to talk about Vietnam constantly, otherwise people will paint him as the new Michael Dukakis.

Of course, when I think of Kerry all I can picture is Michael Dukakis with medals from Vietnam....whoops, I forgot, Kerry threw away his medals to protest the war. At least that's what he did in a grandiose public anti-war rally...of course, years later he claimed they really weren't his REAL medals.

This is an excellent article and it should be read in its entirety:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/13/opinion/13BROO.html?n=Top%2fOpinion%2fEditorials%20and%20Op%2dEd%2fOp%2dEd%2fColumnists%2fDavid%20Brooks

I believe MortfromNewYawk posted it elsewhere.  I still say that I'm glad that if we're considering battle, as a people, it requires a consent of the Congress.  But Kerry has not shown a fitness for that aspect of the Presidency.  Not sure what to make of it yet, but I find this sentence particularly impressive,
"I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it."

Actually true. Still, doesn't mean we can't have our fun. And someone will open the other thread soon enough.

The great thing about John Kerry is he's been around so long, he can put together a selective voting history to demonstrate that he's for or against pretty much anything.

In San Francisco, he can be pro-gay marriage.
In Sarasota, he can be anti-civil union.

In Eugene OR, he can be anti-Iraq War.
In Phoenix (home to the nation's largest Chaldean community) he can be pro-Iraq War.

In Milwaukee, he can be an economic protectionist.
For weathly corporate donors, he can be pro-free trade.

In Downtown Chicago, he can support massive tax hikes for the wealthy.
In Highland Park, he can support tax relief.

What an ideal candidate!

sounds like you're describing their 2000 candidate pretty well too.

Bush flip-flops as well, but at least I *know* where he stands on the single most important issue for me: national security.  I have no idea what to expect from Kerry.

It's not the question of a lesser of two evils.  It's the adage that the devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

I don't know who voted for Kerry from NH.

How can someone from Wisconsin's biggest concern be national security?

Sure, I would hate to see another 4000 people murdered on the coasts, but it isn't going to happen here in the QC...

I want a strong system to stop any chance of it happening again, but not at the cost it takes...

btw, he said Aid, not AIDS, after Saddam's capture. Reminds me of that southpark episode with jarred :D

Aid, really? Like the US agency US-AID? Or something else? I always thought it was AIDS.

KERRY ON KERRY: RECKLESS AND IRRESPONSIBLE [Rich Lowry]

This is from "Face the Nation" on September 14, 2003:

Sen. KERRY: I think we need--I think we need to roll back the top end of the Bush tax cut.

McMANUS: If that amendment does not pass, will you then vote against the $87 billion?

Sen. KERRY: I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon our troops and recklessly leave Iraq to--to whatever follows as a result of simply cutting and running. That's irresponsible. What is responsible is for the administration to do this properly now. And I am laying out the way in which the administration could unite the American people, could bring other countries to the table, and I think could give the American people a sense that they're on the right track. There's a way to do this properly. But I don't think anyone in the Congress is going to not give our troops ammunition, not give our troops the ability to be able to defend themselves. We're not going to cut and run and not do the job.

Look, we could--we could do this job over a period of time at greater loss, at greater risk, and with much loss around the world with respect to the United States. The question is will we do this the best way possible so that we do the best to protect our troops and the best to advance the safety and security of the United States?

SCHIEFFER: Senator, let me...

Sen. KERRY: My plan will do that.

Interesting, huh?
