Yeah, I've shown you my mom's family, so why not part of my dad's too? That'd be my cousin, her children, their father's other daughter, also my cousin's uncle (via her father) with his son - he procreated rather late in life.
Oh yeah, taken in early october, so working outdoors means I still had my summer colour while everybody else didn't. And I've let the beard grow since.

I guess I'm more of a tobacconist than I thought, since I recognized that as a Cohiba from the wrapper. :P There's actually two Cohiba brands: one is manufactured in Cuba and is allegedly the preferred brand of Fidel Castro, the other in the Dominican Republic. There's a few cigar brand names that were lifted from Cuba since it's not like they can do anything about it. The Dominican ones I found a bit overpriced, but I always look out for them in cigar bundles because they're still a very good smoke.. very strong and consistent throughout, just as a cigar ought to be.

I love all fine cigars made in sweat shops by abused poors.  Good job, Mike!

How do you all get your photos to show in your posts?  I don't have an attachment option beneath my text window.

You have to upload your photos to the gallery or an image hosting site like Photobucket and then use the [ img ] tags to put it in a post. There is no attachment option, unfortunately.

You can't attach jpegs.  You need to upload them to the gallery, then insert the images.  Or post the url directly from a website.

There isn't one. The ideal thing to do would be to upload your pictures onto a site like Photobucket, and then copy the link and paste it into image brackets, like so:

[IMG]http://www.randomimagehostingsite.com/anvikshiki/randomimage.jpg[/IM G]

Of course, you'll want to remove the space between the 'M' and the 'G' in that last bracket.

AW:  anvikshiki is a phonetic spelling of the Sanskrit word अन्विक्षिकी.  It means roughly "philosophy" or "critical investigation," though its etymology can be broken down as a nominalized form of the following string of verbs: "seeking" (anvi) "to master" (kSi) "to investigate" (ci-mutated to ki).

I took that picture of my father in 1971 at age of 16, and then a picture of me from 2005 at the age of 16, and clearly the resemblance is strong. Still out of place though, given it's 30-40 years apart. (The baby boomer's having kids two generations later :P)

Well, I was joking of course, but I do have a semi-related tangent; my chapter actually has had a gay brother. I was pretty surprised when I found out about it (he pledged a year before me) that nobody had an issue with him. At his last chapter before graduating, a lot of our more redneck brothers said things like, "being brothers with him made me realize that just because someone is gay doesn't mean they're a f****t." So I'd say Sigma Chi has changed since 1978, yeah, by becoming more progressive in accepting the different temperaments, talents, and convictions of its members. I mean, back in your day Grand Chapter was only barely coming around to allowing non-white brothers, no?

I was joking as well, BK, and you're right..........  We had 2 black Sigs.  We were the only fraternity that had black members, and only 2 out of maybe 100 guys.   Things have changed, it's certainly more "inclusive".  I think that's good.

I guess you missed the post where my Dad and his older brother had to work nights while in high school to support the family, while living in a tenement in Bedford Styversant (sp) (a bad neighborhood then as now), with no windows (it was an interior unit, illegal of course now), and no air conditioning. My clan has had its ups and downs. But yes, I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth (my Dad was a remarkable man, as was his brother). But other than a free higher education, I have not taken a dime from anyone, until of course the recent little inheritance. My share is one sixth. That is rounding error for me, but I do love the land, and plan to keep all of it other than the cropland.  I will because I can.

Opebo, my friend, the white polo I had isn't "white bread" in the way that you think it is. Harry is certainly white bread because he is wearing those horrible white knee socks and a college t-shirt. I wouldn't be caught dead doing that.

I could never quite understand why Democrats admire this guy so much.  I know, economic populism.  But his positions on social issues go against everything progressives support.

He was the first anti-corporate politician.

Hate to turn this into a political thread but two points worth making:

1-Bryan's views on evolution were actually pretty moderate for his day, and would be today in fundamentalist circles. He was more of an old earth creationist than a young earth one and wasn't totally opposed to evolution, he just rejected the idea that humans had evolved rather than being direct creations of God. He also supported women's suffrage so he wasn't a total social conservative.

2-Bryan's concern with evolution was also because at the time it was being largely brought up and used to justify things like eugenics and theories of racial inferiority.

My main issues with him are that he was a strong supporter of Prohibition and that he argued to prosecute John Scopes.  I have strong libertarian leanings in some aspects... probably why I don't like him a whole lot.  I'll give him credit for his support for trust-busting, though.

I spent 6 days in Montevideo, 2 in Colonia and 2 in Fray Bentos in 2006. Loved it. In Montevideo I stayed in Ciudad Vieja, right near Plaza de la Constitucion. There was a bakery around the corner that did the best prettybread (can't remember the Uruguay name, but basically kinda like a pizza ish) and I probably walked about 60kmm in the 6 days I was there. Didn't like Colonia very much though that might be because that's where I watched Italy win the world cup. I loved Fray Bentos but after two days I was about done :)

Paysandú and Artigas have nothing to offer, go to Salto.

Being from a massive island, and being a political geography geek, I kind of find the idea of border towns almost mystical, so Artigas kind of has some interest for that reason, and I was only considering Paysandu because I'll already be going back to Fray Bentos and it's on the way back into Argentina, but maybe I might do Salto instead. The main part of the Uruguay leg will be Montevideo though, for sure.
