Ron Paul gets the nod, who in the GOP would be a good VP ticket to knock off Obama in 2012?

Someone electable who can replace Ron Paul on the top of the ticket as soon as possible.

When I hear "President Ron Paul" I think "was the first president since Kenndy to die in office" so someone younger and qualified.

This reminds me of our gubernatorial race for the right last year :P

Yeah if Paul were to somehow win, it would be a disaster. He'd pick someone, it wouldn't matter. He'd be called on to resign from the ticket. A right ticket with a credible image would pop up, and the election is a major win for Obama

At least you had the courage to mention someone. This excerise was mention as a friendly experiment. It's sad that many here won't even consider that this is possible.

I would guess Gary Johnson.  He is ideologically similar to Paul, he brings executive credentials to the ticket, he helps Paul in the west, and his youth is a good counterbalance to Paul's age.

If Ron Paul was nominated, he would be, by definition, electable.

Ignoring that, I am sure you are right in that he cannot win if nominated. The regular Republicans would drop dead and not vote. Anti-war Democrats would, ignoring Ron Paul anti-war stance in comparison to Obama, rush to vote for Obama in record breaking numbers. No Libertarians would show up, independents (who he has been shown to be leading with or at least almost leading with in several polls) would disappear, the Tea Party would dissipate, and he would lose every state. Oh, and the polls that stick him somewhere between 1-10% behind Obama as of now (while Obama is pretty much at peak performance)? Ignore them, Ron Paul is UNELECTABLE.

Oh, and Walter Jones would be a pretty good VP for Ron Paul; close enough in views so as to not be divisive (or, if Ron died in office, to want to roll back whatever he does), but different enough so as to broaden his appeal.

South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint.

Economics professor, syndicated columnist, author Walter Williams, although his age, 76 in 2012, would no doubt preclude him.  He would be the first black Vice Presidential nominee of a major party.

The above would all be a good ideological fit for him if Ron Paul were the nominee.  I believe, however, he would have to go with a mainline Republican in order to keep the base in line as much as possible, Senator John Kyl or Senator Roy Blunt for example.

I doubt Sen. Jon Kyl would be on the ticket, because isn't he retiring in 2012?  I've got reason to believe (and hope) that when Kyl says he's going to retire, he's going to retire.  He won't be a Brett Favre politician.

To answer the question, I can see Gov. Christie of New Jersey, and I can also see Former Governor Pawlenty on Minnesota.  I have a feeling that Tim Pawlenty will announce an exploratory committee before long, but not so much for the Presidency, as I doubt he has a chance for the nomination, but mostly for a vice-presidential slot with maybe Mitt Romney at the top of the ticket.  I can see him working for Ron Paul, too, though, because of his relative youth and executive experience is a medium-sized state such as Minnesota.

Mitch Daniels?

He's a possibility.

I'd say him and Kucinich would be most libertarians wet dream, assuming of course Paul is the PRESIDENTIAl nominee. Other than that, DeMint I'd bet.

Paul & Daniels sounds like it could be a cocktail.  Daniels, of course, could be Jack Daniels, while Paul could be...I don't know...absinthe.

I personally think Paul/Daniels would be a good ticket. Though I'd rather have a so-con to rally the base.
Say like a Paul/Huckabee ticket or Paul/Bachaman or Paul/Palin.

Yeah Paul should probably pick an establishment candidate. Something tells me Palin won't want to be on the VP end again, though.
