Title: What kind of Christian are you?
Post by: Oswald Acted Alone, You Kook on April 29, 2011, 01:24:55 PM
Inspired by feeblepizza and jmfcst's debate (http://www.beliefnet.com/Faiths/Christianity/Quiz/What-Kind-of-Christian-Are-You.aspx)
Here's my answers to the questions, in just for fun:

Note: Not all of these are direct reflections of what I believe, just the closest.

1. A flawless, timeless, authoritative record of God's will and plan for humankind.
2. An imaginative, instructive poem about creation, the one true God, and human identity.
3. History, plain and simple. Lots of modern archeology proves that the Bible's record of human history—from the Great Flood to the reign of King David—is accurate.
4. I identified with Jesus' message about the kingdom of God.
5. Each reflect the author's perspective, culture, and bias, but they interweave into a complete picture of the historical Jesus. No one knows for sure who wrote them. 6. They are sermons that help us see ourselves as sinners in need of God's saving grace.
7. True
8. It's impossible to know because Galilee was ethnically mixed.
9. Complicated but compelling.
10. John 3:16
11. About the importance of forgiveness, love, and how to have all God wants for you.
12. Heaven
13. Because he had to be, in fulfillment of prophecy and God's plan for humankind.
14. Jesus in a new body, returned from the dead. It was also a picture of what will happen to all of our bodies.
15. Was a virgin chosen by God and impregnated by the Holy Spirit. She was an important vessel, but the Bible doesn't say much else about her.
16. The New International Version or New King James Version.
17. Why is this question on a quiz about Christianity?
18. Any way to pray is fine, as long as you allow everyone else to pray however they choose.
19. Whether or not I am a good person.
20. I have no idea. No one does.
21. I'm not sure, but it's likely that God has made a way for people from all faiths.

I'm a A Brian McLaren Christian

Uhh...ok.

You are A Billy Graham Christian

A.k.a. a Rick Warren, Beth Moore Christian. Your Christianity emerged with John Calvin and Martin Luther, and was refined in America by D.L. Moody and Carl F.H. Henry. You subscribe to Christianity Today and read Karen Kingsbury and Ted Dekker novels. You've taken the Love Dare. Or not—this category of evangelical Christian is broad and diverse, but is held together by classic evangelical theology, including a high view of scripture and the emphasis on a personal relationship with Jesus.

Want more? Read about Billy Graham. Watch our interview with Rick Warren. See American Idol's Mandisa explain why Beth Moore is her role model.

Yeah, I got that too. Of course, most of the questions had no answer options I was comfortublz with. While a couple had two.

I'd like to see jmfcst take this. And I want to know which answers he picked.

By the way, did anyone answer anything other than "Why is this question on a quiz about Christianity?" for number 17?

Not a Christian, but I also chose the closest answer and got Brian McLaren.

You are A Billy Graham Christian

got stuck on Q4: I became a Christian when...there was not anything that matched so I chose "... I found out God had a wonderful plan for my life. "

overall, thought it was a weak test and didnt reflect my views for many of the questions,  and I agreed with several answers for many of the quesitions, and I didn't like the choice of answers for many of the other questions. but I am not surprised I was lumped with Billy Graham

Some of the questions are misleading, and I'd either pick two answers, a combination of some, or none if given the opportunity. However...I got "Billy Graham Christian".

The possible results are fairly ridiculous. McClaren and Spong aren't THAT far apart, and there's a fair amount of overlap between Osteen and some of the descriptions under Billy Graham.

Christianity Today is too ecumenical, Warren is far too seeker sensitive, the Love Dare is cheesy fluff, and I don't know who Karen Kingsbury is. I understand that it says that it's a broad group, but come on, conservative Christianity is way too diverse to fit under one category, especially considering the other three categories....

Answering what I would say were I Christian and I got Bishop Spong and Karen Armstrong.

McLaren/Bell/Wright

McClaren and Spong aren't THAT far apart

I would think whether or not Jesus is God would be a pretty major difference.

Not really, if there's no application of that principle in your theology. In practical terms, there's almost no difference. The biggest difference is that Spong is far more consistent than the other camp...

The Fred Phelps Answer?  I didn't really see you as the "USA =Babylon" type.

My edit button isn't working, so...question 8 about Jesus' appearance seems silly to me.

not sure what Phelps has to do with it, it has nothing to do with homosexuality, but I have said for years on this forum that I am leaning towards identifying USA = Mystery Babylon....

yeah, and identifying him as a peasant?  what's up with that?  Joseph was a carpenter by trade, the only reason Jesus was born in a "barn" was that the inn was full.

He'd probably hate Jesus too if he met Him.

So let's see how new BRTD does...

I got Brian McLaren Christian. So I actually got LESS orthodox now? I can kind of understand why, but it's still funny.

Question 16 bugged me because the answer for me is the New Living Translation. And for 15 I liked the third option until the point about Catholic Mary devotion, cut that and I'd probably vote for it.

I got Brian McLaren.  "I emphasize social justice as an element of God's kingdom."  How unsurprising!

Brian McLaren, which...I mean, politically that makes sense, but theologically there's, uh, quite a bit of daylight between me and most of the people listed.
