Title: State Legislature Redistricting: Michigan
Post by: Queen Mum Inks.LWC on June 18, 2011, 01:56:31 AM
Here's the map for MI Senate: http://download.gannett.edgesuite.net/detnews/2011/pdf/0617senatemap.pdf

Zoomed in for Southeast:

Other than 1 and 14 (which I'm not sure how they connected), it's not bad.

State House:

13 is the only bad one there.

And the Senate 1st and House 13th are both racial gerrymanders (I think).  You have to connect Grosse Point with more Wayne-county whites in order to avoid wasting VRA-necessary blacks.

I'm terribly amused by the Senate "Wayne County white people" district.

It's also cute of them to link East Lansing to the line of townships due east.

Yep. It was a tall order to avoid cutting 1 of the 5 Senate black districts, so they cut the Chinese guy instead.

Really surprised they didn't put Pontiac in that 11th.
