Title: "Summarize" the preceding poster
Post by: Antonio the Sixth on June 29, 2011, 03:00:46 AM
Inspired by this thread (https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=137402.msg2940671#msg2940671) (see BRTD's post and the following ones). Basically, you have to present the preceding poster as if you were talking to someone who doesn't know him at all.

Polish citizen
Recent (about two years ago) addition to the forum
Leftist politically, though that's not crucial to knowing about him
Troll who knows his limits
Former Atlasian Senator of the Midwest

New-ish member
Makes excellent maps, perhaps the best maps on this forum
Is a real goldmine of political information and stuff on New England/NY
Is very friendly and helpful
And certainly not a hack by any measure; rather an intelligent moderate figure of reason
Apparently attends a uni in CT, which is pretty much also the personal info we know about him

An old though young member of this forum,
who is a centrist, regionalist, social liberal, financial hawk, foreign-affairs FDR-like realistic guy.

A huge contributor to this forum, with excellent maps, brilliant sociological and electoral analyses, very fine ideas of what-ifs.

Franco-canadian Vermont, Celtic and Arabic countries lover, very open to the world, to international history and affairs, with an often refreshing view and which are the subject of his university course and of his clever and knowledgeable own site.

Very sensitive to some passions of its own, but with a big amount of self-mockery, except when it's from trolls, hacks and spammers.

Title: Re: "Summarize" the preceding poster

Commonly refered as an "old man" (including by himself). I've rarely seen him post outside the Forum Community board and doesn't seem interested in discussing politics. His main interest seems to be fooling around with his clique of admirers. Likes to make fun of other people even when he makes no sense at all. A lot of people find him witty and I've yet to understand why. Politically he's a kind of right-libertarian hack who cares a lot about guns.

Title: Re: "Summarize" the preceding poster
Post by: Torie on June 29, 2011, 10:00:21 AM
I don 't know him very well, but what I do know, impresses me.  He is a very bright and mature young man who writes extremely well - indeed, shockingly well assuming English is not his first language. He is informed and generally seems to have pretty good judgment. But as his post above reflects, he is a rather harsh grader.  Perhaps he will become a tad more charitable with the passage of time. And by the way, Grumps has put up a considerable body of work on the US politics board, generally stuff about the dysfunctional antics of government, an institution that he trusts about as much as Weiner's honesty about his personal affairs. :)

Wise with an almost zen-like quality to him.  Commands respect.  This description is so brief because I lack the ability to elaborate further.  Mere mortals like me would be struck down instantly if they fully understood Torie.

On Torie (since Bullmosse barely beat me to it)

-Republican from Laguna, California
-Policy views on social issues are open and inclusive.
-Strong fiscal conservative, especially knowledgable about law, government budget and tax policy
-Committed to education reform and entitlement reform
-A preeminent master of making redistricting maps
-One of the forum's most brilliant and analytically skilled posters, who bases his views on empirical data and writes about those views lucidly
-An entirely benevolent hedonist and an apparent favorite with the ladies
-An unfailingly perfect gentleman

On Bullmoose:

-Republican from southeastern Pennsylvania
-self-described socially liberal and fiscally conservative Republican
-outstanding writer, whose posts at once demonstrate fair-mindedness, insight and excellent wit
-provides quite observant political analysis and displays considerable knowledge and has made good contribution to some topics on the Religion and Philosophy boards
-followers of his posts will never be disappointed

I've always thought of anvikshiki (though I've had limited contact with him) as a very bright and sensible poster. Unlike many here, I believe that he really looks at all perspectives.

-He's an independent (obviously, since he's open-minded) from Illinois.
-Leans left-of-center, though stays close to the middle.
-Always fair and even-handed.
-He's one of the posters whose opinions I read, and not skim over.

Summary:

Incredibly smart and well read for his age. "Articulate" doesn't touch it. I recall how shocked I was only several months ago to discover he's only 15.

Conservative, but not a nut about it. A rare vanishing breed of (usually, relatively ;)) sensible Republicans.

A very kind and gentle creature. (Hahah, yeah it wasn't that funny...;))

Badger brings a large degree of expertise and talent to whatever he does and is always willing to take a heavy work load.

He's also quite a nice person; I don't know if I've ever really seen him get in a forum fight.  He' remarkable dedication for the causes he believes in (Abortion rights immediately come to mind) are very nice, and show something that is lacking from many Democrats these days. :)

Used to be very close to him...

Very intelligent for his young age, seems pretty locked on his views. Despite his left leanings, very willing to work with both sides and have friends on both sides, which is a quality I deeply admire. Has had some commitment issues on Atlasia, but I understand that real life must always take precedence. :)

He has returned from a long absence! Barnes is one of the nicest posters on the forum. He is a Democrat from Georgia, like one of his favorite presidents. He is also rather sad, I am sure, that his namesake lost in 2010.

He also wrote decent timelines that he never finished.

A libertarian from California. A reasonably nice person. His arguing skills aren't extraordinary, but he's certainly not the most annoying among forum libertarians. :P He's one of the few guys who cares about the ridiculously low size of the US House of Representatives, though : which is an excellent thing. ;) Has weird tastes and seems to be obsessed with Lady Gaga. :P

-  I have yet to figure out why his avatar is blue
-  I enjoy the occasional look at his What If threads
-  Dedicated to Atlasia and a value to the forum

Oh yeah, and he constantly changes his display names, which I don't generally mind, unless it's to yadda "Sexgod"  yadda.

Franco-Breton-Canadian, teenager, student at University of Ottawa.
Brilliant student of political sociology - a very bright young light in his field.
Fiercely opinionated, has an affinity for cultural minorities and their political struggles.
Comes off as insulting to people who don't know as much as he does - often his attitude is justified, but it's quite off-putting.
The sort of guy I'd really like to meet one day.

-  Great survivors, besides him eliminating Herkimer :P
-  Fantastic NE Assembly member, I would vote for him if he ran for higher office in a heartbeat.
-  Very friendly, and helpful, and never one to be rude even if you fail to read directions when voting for NY counties :)

Ultimately, a far greater contributor than I [and the majority of others] on this forum.

Brilliant and clever lawyer from Ohio, with very precise political ideas, which are unfortunately deeply and boringly leftist.
A man who likes and masters language and writing, which is a big plus, nowadays...!

Italian socialist who I think also lives in France sometimes (?). To second what some people have mentioned, he writes amazingly good English considering it's presumably not his second language. Very much a "liberal" as far as American politics goes.

I've had some great interaction with him in Fantasy-land, where he's easily one of the best, most active Senators in the game. It was also fun defending him against some Libertas nonsense lawsuit a while back. :P

Someone inextricably linked to the institution. He studies at a grande école, is a social democrat and is concerned about politicians, not the political scheme. So he's the kind of guy that sees the PCI as no better than Berlusconi, because one wants to topple the system while the other spits on the system's face.

The end goal for Antonio seems to be the optimization of Western liberal democracy into one that finds and resolves the natural inequalities of society. To that end he works within the institution's confines. I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with that, but that can annoy those who lean on radicalism.

A WA Democrat in a forum puzzlingly full of WA Democrats.
A perfectly civil character - your average respectful and insightful poster.
Often difficult to mentally distinguish from Fuzzy, RI, Ebowed, etc.

Posted a lot back in the day. I think he changed ideologies a lot when he was younger, but I might be mixing him up with Josh. In fact, I seem to recall getting Josh and Kevin mixed up before, so I'm not actually sure about that. There was a long time where I didn't see any posts from Kevin, so he's probably been away for a while, starting his college life I'd imagine. Decent guy.

An independent from Georgia (had a Louisiana avatar for some time). He's a kind of left-libertarian for what I know, but doesn't discuss politics too much. Likable enough, even though we don't interact much. Is a long-time participant to Atlasia, has held several important position but isn't very active nowadays.

I like him.  Obviously intelligent when talking about trends and demographics.  Very active in Atlasia.  I sometimes don't think he knows how some of his comments sound, or perhaps doesn't care, which gives him a bad reputation with certain people.  I've never had a problem with him, and he was an asset as Speaker, so I'd say FF.

For Antonio:

A fine data and graphs poster on US elections and on electoral system, with very good ideas on US what-ifs and on suspenseful survivors, and a great contributor to Atlasia, in which he played very (too ?) seriously, contrary to a vast majority.
He is more on the left than a real social-democrat (he's partly French after all ;)), but he will mature with time and will probably be more moderate.
His English is very good for a French and he is very open to the world, especially on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, for a Sciences-Po student.
Overall, a very interesting guy.
And the only fan of my 2012 Big Bad Tracker ! :P

A very left-wing Pole. Contributes a lot to many parts of the forum : timelines, Atlasia, survivors, international stuff etc... His TLs are usually interesting and nice to read. Knows a lot of stuff about politics of many countries. In Atlasia, he's had a pretty amazing carreer, even though he has a tendency to make erratic choices (like switching parties every week, exiling himself in Alaska, etc...). He's also a true "character" in the forum communities. He likes to keep on with memes for a long time, which annoys certain people. He likes to have fun with things other people don't always find funny... Overall, he's a very nice person but sometimes tends to get mad at you for some little thing : if you want to be his friend, you have to be very patient... He had some difficulties with english grammar at the beginning, but has improved since.

Torie:

A man of tremendous experience (how does one live to one's fifties?), which makes me hesitant to judge him in any way. Shows respect to whoever meets a certain threshold in terms of age or credentials. Reacts to everyone else with a pessimism, putting much faith in human nature being naturally conservative and irrational.

Also one of the elders of the forum's redistricting clan, a profession which takes an incomprehensible degree of patience.

Fallenmorgan:

First saw him on the Paradox forums. Then I saw him on the Alternate History forums. Then I saw him on this forum. I can't seem to escape him, or is he unable to escape me?

A very critical person whose political views reflect such. His move from hardcore libertarian to anti-statist from high school to college can easily be explained by how criticism is his central tenet, unlike taxes/abortion/muslims/etc.

Slightly bizarre but pleasant/friendly libertarian. I don't know him much, but it seems as if he took some sort of forum hiatus and returned as a somewhat different guy. Cool person.

Yelnoc is an overall nice poster. Sometimes I get the feeling he is trying really hard to seem moderate on a subject. :P. We need a guy like Yelnoc around here.

Smart kid, reminds me a lot of myself at his age, I too was stuck in a culture-less right wing hellhole and had the same general opinion of my peers. Would make a great political strategist or precinct captain one day, has both the knowledge and charisma and brains to inspire.

An institution in this forum, where he has posted more than anyone else. Describing him entirely will make this post exceed the maximum length. I'll just say he's a left-winger holding often very radical views, but quite mavericky ones in some cases. He has extremely weird tastes for music and other things, and for some reason thinks the whole forum cares about that. Also, he tends to be obsessed by particular things (Opebo, suburbs and strip clubs, among others). Always makes polls about random topics. Despite all this, he remains an invaluable addition to the forum community and sometimes makes excellent contributions. The Atlas Forum just wouldn't be the Atlas Forum without BRTD.

As jealous of my money as he thinks I am of his virility.  I think that about sums up our "relationship."  :)

Oh, and he has trouble with authority figures.  Maybe with age, he will throw in the towel a bit more on that one.  Touts an ideology that some might find seems deliberately "hyperbolized."  I mean, can it really be real? Only the man behind the curtain really knows.

A Republican (?) from California. Is considered as "an old" like Gramps. He's one of the kindest persons I've seen in this forum, never rude or abrasive with anyone (see his comment to me, with whom he's never interacted, or with Opebo which he doesn't seem to like). He also holds fairly balanced and insightful opinions. Seems pretty un-ideological, in the good way.

Dude, as part of a 'summary' of me, you mention that I think you're jealous (should be envious) of my virility?  Summary is supposed to be a condensation of the most basic and essential facts, not mentioning of tangential curiosities.

Also, let me clue you in on a little secret - everyone who doesn't have money envies you your money.  There's nothing uniquely 'opebo' about that.

In any case, I don't have any trouble with authority figures - and I'm not sure where you got that idea.  I'm a serious bower and scraper, with a thoroughly brown nose.  I hate work because I have a lot of other better things to do, not because of a 'boss'.

I'll summarize Torie since I did Anintio before:

Torie's political views are precisely and exactly determined by his membership in a privileged class, and like nearly all members of this class, he is lacking in self-awareness and entertains horatio-alger fantasies.

(Roach) He's a very annoying spammer who posts nothing of substance and sadly has nothing better to do with his life and summer than to creepily post 6000 pictures of males and females who are not even remotely good looking and who are probably double his age. If he at least contributed something worthwhile, but the only thing he gives us are pictures of old ugly people and random spam which we waste our time and energy to read. The forum would be served if he got banned.

If Applejack were here, she'd say, "We don't need none of your defendin', sugar cube, we ponies are mighty tough ourselves."  (Seriously, stop white knighting ponies, they're grown up and can take care of themselves)

Internet Libertarian par excellence, meets the stereotype quite well on all levels.  I'm kind of surprised he isn't mining Bitcoins in his spare time.  Outspoken on the trappings of gender, though I've never heard him discuss fixing earning disparity or other major issues women face.  Has a tendency to be rather ().

Probably the most agreeable and reasonable of all the libertarians here that come to mind.
Unlike a lot of people here, knows when to speak up and when not to.
Not sure what his username means (the "fallen" bit, at least)
