Title: Was 1992 a landslide?
Post by: A18 on December 14, 2004, 01:12:31 PM
Some people say it was. I have no clue how that logic works, unless an election has to be nail-biting close to not qualify as a landslide.

you could say maybe eV wise.. but I say no.

Maybe 1996 could be considered one,  but I say no to 1992.

1992 and 1996 are not much different EV-wise. The last landslide in the US was 1984. Before that there's 1972 and 1964. I'd say those are the only ones after WWII. THere are huge victories, but landslides should be pretty high demands on.

No way was 92 a landslide Clinton only got 43% of the vote. Although he did get like 350 electoral votes thats not even enough to call a landslide.

The popular margin was fairly decisive, but far from a landslide. The electoral vote was pretty much a blowout, but still not quite of landslide proportions.

A landslide should generally be about 400+ and at least a 7-8% difference between the two leading candidates.

1956 meets the technical definition as well

no, but it was pretty embarassing for Bush I considering he came in THIRD place in his actual home state.

Correct.

Bush I is no more a Texan than Hillary Clinton is a New Yorker.
