Could this have resulted in an earlier forming of an independent American state?
Earlier in a book I was reading, I read of Thomas Payne's idea that there be less of a revolution and more of an evolution as the 13 colonies evolved with their own industries and resources to gain independence, as opposed to what actually happened. I do wonder if we would have seen the same westward expansion under such a scenario. Especially the Louisiana Purchase. I imagine the Southwest would still be Mexico. |
