Title: Republican singers
Post by: Duke David on October 26, 2011, 12:30:06 PM
A Republican, as defined for the purpose of my question, is someone who votes Republican more often than Democrat.

Click and discuss.

Faith Hill is a Democrat.

Dolly Parton hasn't stated which party she supports, but she is fairly liberal.

Reba McEntire is a Republican, but doesn't say much about politics publicly.

Beyonce hasn't stated support for either party.

Beyonce hasn't stated support for either party.

The fact that she played for Barack and Michelle is sort've a give away. And Jay-Z too.

I remember PETA one year declared Carrie Underwood to be the "sexiest vegetarian" or something like that, so I'd be quite surprised if she's a Republican.

But as for the poll I really can not care.

Just because you are a vegetarian means you are a Democrat now.. wow that is a news to me...

Seventh day Adventists are heavily republican, so I wouldn't say its that unusual to be republican and vegetarian. of Course Carrie Underwood isn't Adventist, but personal food choices hardly make ones politics.

Three results are very surprising to me:

Why do so many people think Kelly Clarkson is a Republican?
Because she has never caused a scandal? Because she's a Texan? LOL

And Mariah Carey and Beyoncé not being Republicans? No way.

So lesbians can't be Republicans? Just because a person's gay doesn't mean they can't be Republican. BTW she's denied the rumors.

I believe Faith Hill was confirmed as an Obama donor.

People who are into animal rights in that sense though rarely are overall conservative or Republican. For the record I'd be surprised if even half of Seventh Day Adventists are true strict vegetarians, just like how many members of churches that encourage abstinence from alcohol actually do so.

I think this list is pretty terrible, but NWA supported H.W. Bush. Would be even more ironic if they played  the police at that Republican fundraiser.

Apropos Beyoncé and Bush: I found an interview with Destiny's Child, published in Germany's biggest news magazine, Der Spiegel (http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/print/d-19076046.html); it was conducted in April 2001:

SPIEGEL: Why did you perform at George W. Bush's inaugural party in January? Because you're from Texas? Or because you sympathize with the GOP's views?

Knowles: We don't talk about politics.

Rowland: But we could tell that he was very cool. Much different than on TV - handsomer. He has a tight handshake and he smelled good, a bit of detergent.

Williams: He said we exercised great influence over the youth. Then he danced onstage with Ricky Martin.

SPIEGEL: You don't say! [...]

There's an inverse correlation between being a creative person and being Republican.

most musicians try not to disclose their political beliefs (if any). Doing so risks losing a lot of your fanbase.

I'm just doing this off the cuff so correct me if I'm wrong.  I think what actually happened was he donated to a nonpartisan charity and then got on some mailing list for rich people and was invited to a dinner that H.W. Bush attended.  That was the story I heard.  Correct me if I'm wrong.  I don't have VH1.

Oddly, I know two Jehovah's witnesses quite well and both are Democrats.  But one is more "generic, but faithful Christian" and the other is "ooooh... this looks cool.  Now I can make my husband do all the work on holidays!"  So take from that what you will.

Most Jehova's Witnesses who actually vote are Democrats. But this is not surprising considering that their church prohibits them from voting, thus anyone who does is clearly not very dedicated to it and a clear "Cafeteria Jehova's Witness", and probably more like the "generic but faithful Christian" type you mention than an actual Jehova's Witness.

I actually knew a guy who ran a hardcore record distro who was a Jehova's Witness (well raised that way but obviously no longer practicing), I think he still sort of identified as Christian. His wife (very hot by the way) was a pretty vocal Christian, but of the "Decorate my MySpace (this was circa 2006) in Bible verses while I'm out getting drunk at shows and moshing!" type.

That's true but his publicist was on record as saying he supported him because of Gulf War 1.

I don't think you can judge either way, without them being too public about it or viewing their donations to political figures. Many actors and most athletes (and coaches) are also usually secretive about politics, too. Directors... not as much.

Garth Brooks is a Democrat. Toby Keith is a Republican-Voting Dixiecrat who favors Gay Marriage stating "banning gay marriage will accomplish nothing but a waste of time and money".
