There are already quite a few demographic maps in the Gallery, uploaded by other posters, but I thought that it might be helpful to collate some of them in a thread. We could do them by province, and/or federally, but it is probably easier to put all of them in one thread, so that we don't have multiple threads with few entries.

I'm not just linking to everybody else's maps, however... here's a map I did yesterday of the proportion of private dwellings rented throughout British Columbia by BC Provincial Riding. No real surprises - generally, the proportion increases in closer proximity to downtown Vancouver and downtown Victoria. The proportion of households rented across BC was a smidgeon over 30%. I found Abbotsford West and Abbotsford South interesting (higher than I expected) because I somewhat expected that in metropolitan areas, percent rented would more closely resemble election results.

I made some demographic maps of BC by provincial constituency. I'm not sure if I ever uploaded them, but I could upload them if anybody's interested.

I couldn't see any other obvious ones in the demographic maps folder of the Gallery, but there may be some in a different folder. If I've missed one someone's uploaded, I'm sorry. Anyway, I'm sure others can post their maps in here.

Yes please (I hope everyone sort of takes ownership of this thread and upload plenty of the spectacular and interesting maps most of us produce)! I did one yesterday (final one in the above post), and was planning on making some more, but there's no point in me doubling up on what you've already done. If you've got any others for other provinces, they'd be great, too! You're probably already aware, but Elections BC has a spreadsheet providing stats for a range of demographic data, already arranged and sorted according to provincial riding, so it's relatively easy to create those maps (although still time-consuming).

Dean Sherratt noted that the high proportion in the vicinity of Markham was probably due to the large proportion of ethnically Chinese people living there, who see Confucianism as a philosophy rather than a religion (see comments to the map in the gallery).

I recall seeing another one of proportion Aboriginal throughout Northern Canada (including the Northern half of the Western provinces) but couldn't find it today. Anyone know where it's hidden?

There's a subtle translation issue with the ethnic origin, since up until the 1960's and the simultaneous rise of Québécois identity and the adoption by Anglophones of Canadian rather than British imperial national symbolism, Francophones generally used "canadien" just for themselves and "anglais" for other Canadians, and this usage of "canadien" still exists in a historical context.

Still, I remember than we entered French as our ancestry on the last Census form.

My religion map was by riding and used Orange for Prots and Green for RC :P

Upload it anyway! It doesn't hurt to have more than one copy.

Cool. There was a noticeable drop in the amount of people who said Canadian in 2006 compared to 2001 across the country, which made for a more interesting map.

Due to the color scale, some of those dark purple areas are Francophone minority.

Here are three maps I did of Alberta, based on 2003 Provincial riding boundaries and the 2006 Census results.

The first one shows the percentage speaking English at home, the second one shows the percentage speaking French at home and the third shows the percentage speaking a non-official language at home.

I was initially surprised by the higher levels of non-official languages spoken in rural and remote areas, but perhaps these are indigenous languages being spoken on reserves?

The highest level of non-official languages being spoken at home is in Calgary - McCall, at 35.7%. No other riding even passes the 30% mark.
