I have a big long thread with this in it. :( No one ever goes there though.

They get buried rather easily. I added a second map that simply shows the victor and not the shading.

Basically 90% of the reason why I want the primary to go until all 50 states have voted is so that this map can be filled out all the way.

I am looking forward to this map filling up and displaying the Romney vs. Gingrich brawl

I think it's quite easy to see how the map would fill out.  The South is 100% orange, the Midwest purple and the Northeast and West blue.

You should make the colors match up with the Atlas colors. Paul in Green is weird.

I think it is safe to color in Clark County as blue now. :)

There is no consistent Atlas color scheme now. I think these colors look fine.

Meh, I don't like that setup. I feel my colors are sentimental to the candidates and are hand-picked to be the best:

Perry - Biggest Red State Governor (wish he hadn't of flopped so badly)
Gingrich - Orange, because that's the next closest color to hate besides red
Paul - Green, because he wants to legalize it
Santorum - Purple, because he hates the gays
Romney - Blue State liberal in disguise

;)

On the election results page, you can select 'Primary by Year' and they will show up.

When Missouri has their caucus, are you going to use those results to replace those of its primary? I think the caucus should be the default map for Missouri, since that's when the delegates will be awarded.

I'd chalk it up to media markets/advertising. Did Santorum even have commercials/ads in Iowa? I remember he was riding around with some dude in a pickup truck at one point. The Illinois side - I'm sure - had plenty of media exposure to Santorum.

Looks like Romney actually did better on the Illinois side. The conservative vote just isn't as split anymore. ;D

You do great work! I don't tend to bother with the results thread, because so many people post in there, it's hard to keep up. I check this thread and Erc's Delegates thread as the two I like to watch on election day.

Thanks for the kind words. It seems tonight, it's taking forever to get any real major results in on a 100% reporting level. Only a few counties in MD have finished counting the votes at this point.

Virginia's botched election is bothering me more and more as the surrounding states come in. :(

Seriously, I wish we could all just forget about VA and wipe it. It was supposed to be a very good state and the contrast of ideology would have shown up really well there if not for the Romney/Paul beauty contest.

Looks like Waukesha County is the only county left to report everything in. I only wish it was Kathy Nickolaus' doing this time.

You can see a distinctive pattern starting to occur on the map, looks great.  The urban areas are Romney, Santorum takes the rural areas.

Indeed. It would probably be even more distinct if not for Virginia and Iowa (Iowa is not so bad, but the shading would be darker and some of the more random counties may be more consistent). It's a very interesting map.

Adam, some of your county shades are off (probably due to rounding) in Wisconsin and a number of other states. I'd cross-check your maps with Dave's on the main site or mine.

Thanks for that. I would say rounding is the issue with most of them, although my eyes aren't great with the shades sometimes after staring at them for hours.

Yeah, Virginia is bothersome. In the long-run though, it's probably better for the GOP that the state's primary was pretty much uncontested. The candidates didn't scrape their way through the state and alienate everyone like they did in Michigan and Wisconsin.

What's the (Ron) Paul county in Kentucky like?

It would also be good to update this map:

Here's a county map of (Rick + Newt), (Mitt) and (Ron). I thought the sects (Libertarian, Evangelical, Corporatist) would manifest more clearly but I was wrong. I'd love to see the Utah satellite Mormon colonies not going for Romney right now.

()

Exceptions in this map:

IA is (Rick + Rick + Newt + Michelle), (Mitt + Jon) & (Ron)
NH is (Rick + Rick + Newt), (Mitt + Jon) & (Ron)

Done! Well, mostly. And apparently that one county in KY had more results pile in even after saying it had 100% of precincts reporting.
