Title: 2040: A Dream, A Prophecy
Post by: They put it to a vote and they just kept lying on February 28, 2012, 02:32:28 PM
Hi. So I want to do this timeline as kind of an experiment to see how long I'll run with this. Worth noting: none of the characters in this timeline are real people (to my knowledge.) Some of the events have actually occurred, but some may be slightly fabricated. The following timeline may also contain strong adult language, drug references, references to sexual themes as well as some unsettling references.

"Senator...Senator? Oh my God! He's ice cold! Someone help! Help!"

Breaking News: Illinois Senator Pascal T. Robinson (R), 56, dies.

CNN News:

Senator Pascal T. Robinson (R-IL) died in his sleep last night, supposedly from an overdose of painkillers. The 56 year old Senator, a much respected Republican in the Senate for being a bi-partisan leader, as well as working with Democratic President Stefan Juarez to create a balanced budget, left behind his wife of 30 years and two children. No word yet on who will replace the late Senator, though a Republican is likely, considering the state is Governed by a Republican. That Governor--

"I just can't believe it....He was so young--"

"Good riddance."

"Oh John, stop it. That's not nice to say."

"The man supported state-sanctioned killing in the form of war and the death penalty. Plus he received donations from companies that have committed crimes against humanity. He was a corrupt bastard."

"John..."

"I'm sorry."

John Nelson, a former musician and now a writer, eyed the TV over his morning coffee, watching the news unfold. The 34 year old Nelson, a lifelong Libertarian, who wrote several novels and stories centered around Libertarian and Anti-Government ideals, wasn't the least bit moved by the death of Senator Robinson. Nelson even began to ponder challenging him in 2032 if he could gather the money, but decided against it. Now, it was anybody's game.

"Honey?"

"Yes, dear?"

"I think I'm gonna run for Senate next year."

Sarah Nelson dropped the glass she had been washing.

"But John...why?"

"Well, with Robinson kicking the bucket, I figured I'd give it a shot."

"John, you know what they say...politics turns good men into monsters."

"I'm not a good man to begin with."

CNN News:

Illinois Governor George O'Hara (R) announces that Congressman Kent Wagner (R) will replace late Senator Pascal Robinson as Senator. Wagner, a United States Representative from Illinois' 6th District, has been criticized as being "too right wing" by most Congressional Democrats. Fellow Illinois Congressman Sam Cahill (D) called the appointment "a clear stab at partisanship as well as a clear portrayal at what kind of person Governor O'Hara is." Wagner said yesterday on rumors that he would replace Senator Robinson--

"Not surprised. A corrupt Governor doing a favor for a corrupt Congressman? Pfft. Not surprised."

"John, why won't you give Wagner a chance?"

"Because one of his former aids was the son of a lobbyist who donated $500,000 to his re-election campaign last year. He's corrupt."

"Still thinking about running for Senate?"

"Actively considering it."

"Do you think you could win?"

"Against Kent Wagner? It'd be a cakewalk."

CNN News:

Author and Musician John Nelson has announced a bid for US Senate in 2032 in the state of Illinois. The 34 year old Nelson, most famous for his involvement in Grammy award winning hard rock group Fletcher, whose albums A Note For Notoriety (2013) and Something In The Air (2016) have been hailed as two of the most influential albums of the 2010's. The group parted ways in 2020, with Nelson, the band's lead guitarist, becoming an activist and author. Nelson has made national headlines for his outspoken criticism of the Federal Government, but more specifically for his recent criticism of late Illinois Senator Pascal T. Robinson in the wake of his death, as well as referring to Former President Christopher Halford as a "neo-nazi" and saying that he should be "hanged for crimes against humanity." President Halford responded with the following:

Quote from: Former President Christopher Halford (R-RI)
Mr. Nelson's accusations are shocking and disturbing to say the least. To call for the death of a President in any context is of criminal nature. I have, however, declined offers to have Mr. Nelson arrested, for I am a believer in free speech, unlike Mr. Nelson seems to believe. Nevertheless, if Mr. Nelson is to hear this message, I'd like to invite him to my home in Providence for a chat. I'd love to speak with him about his work.

Nelson declined the offer.

Hmmm.  Anti-free speech rhetoric against a libertarian...well, even thirty years later, I should have known sh^t would still be still sh^t.  Man, we gotta make sure that The Body runs, just to piss everyone off.

John Nelson airs a commercial in Illinois.

-picture of Senator Kent Wagner on screen with American flag in background- "Conservative Republican Kent Wagner is a believer in freedom and prosperity..." -big red nose appears on Wagner's face, American flag turns into a picture of a jester and a comedic horn sound plays- "April Fools! While in Congress, Kent Wagner supported legislation to dilute the existence of your 1st Amendment rights to free speech and protest, hiding behind the excuse of "terrorist activity within recent protests. Kent Wagner also received donations from countless big corporations and lobbyists-" -names of corporations and their donations pops all over screen- "and yet claims to be a morally sound politician. Kent Wagner is yanking your chain with rhetoric, throw the fool out!" -John Nelson- "I'm John Nelson and I approve this message."

Congressman Nick Martin, a Democrat, announces his bid for US Senate in Illinois.

Public Policy Polling releases a new poll, including Martin.

Who do you support for US Senate in 2032?

Senator Kent Wagner (R) - 42%
Author and Musician John Nelson (L) - 36%
Congressman Nick Martin (D) - 22%

April 14th 2031

John Nelson is interviewed by CNN anchor William Pierce:

Pierce: You're made quite the stir nationally with your outspoken criticism of the Federal Government...if that is the case, why do you want to be involved in it so bad?

Nelson: Well cancer doesn't kill you from the outside, does it? It kills you from the inside. I'm not a cancer, but I certainly do want to infiltrate and dismantle the Government.

Pierce: But why?

Nelson: You see, the Government is oppressing us. Our rights are being stripped in the name of "beating terrorism." You can't beat terrorism, just like you can't set fire to air. It's an idea. You cannot kill an idea. So to propose this notion of stripping liberties to kill an idea...it seems very fishy. There's got to be something more to it.

Pierce: So, after the United States invaded Iran in July of 2012, you say that's what turned you onto politics?

Nelson: Yes, I was 14 years old when that happened, I remember it very vividly. President Obama walked up to the podium and announced that we needed to invade Iran if we were to maintain our national security...I was appalled. I knew Iran posed no threat to us, there was clearly something more to it. Then when I found out a year later that it was for oil...I was appalled. I found this out when my band was on tour promoting our first record. I was 15. It was so overwhelming. I would make speeches to the crowds, telling them to go out and rebel against their Government, it was the start of something.

Pierce: And it's to my understanding that you even received a call from President Rand Paul in 2016, congratulating you on your band's second album going platinum?

Nelson: Yep, it was 3 weeks before he was assassinated. It was pretty scary. I cried. He was the first President I ever voted for and I truly supported him.

Pierce: So what do you think now of President Walker?

Nelson: He's another fascist puppet, I can't stand him. He kisses up to the elite every damn speech, it's appalling. It's like...grow some balls, man.

Pierce: You've been called by President Halford as well?

Nelson: Yeah he called me and wanted me to come to Rhode Island to "talk" with him, I told him to shove it.

Pierce: Did you really?

Nelson: Well, I told him to shove it up his you know what.

Pierce: You just don't fear anyone, do you?

Nelson: What is there to fear? Why should I fear some talking head who has no more power than Omar the school teacher or Billy Bob the janitor? It's pathetic. There's only one person I'm truly afraid of.

Pierce: Who's that?

Nelson: Myself.

Oh, didn't Robert Paul win at some point?  ;).  Actually, you did hint at a Paul dynasty; where will you go with this?  Just wondering, it seems like an awesome start for something much bigger, and because it's in the future, you can easily take it as far as you want.  Standing by for more ;)
