What will it look like ?

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — New applications for U.S. unemployment benefits were barely changed last week and appear to have settled in a range consistent with modest hiring trends.

The Labor Department said on Thursday that initial claims fell by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 351,000 in the week ended Feb. 25. The level of claims is an indicator of whether layoffs are rising or falling.

Claims from two weeks ago were revised up to 353,000 from 351,000. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had estimated claims would fall to 350,000.

...

The latest MarketWatch forecast estimates that 208,000 jobs were created in February, keeping in line with recent trends. The government will issue the critical monthly employment report on March 9.

While companies have boosted employment, the U.S. still has a long way to go to undo the damage from the deep 2007-2009 recession. Nearly 6 million jobs that were lost during the downturn have not returned and the unemployment rate, though falling, is still high at 8.3%.

I'll predict about 263.000 jobs and the unemployment rate is down to 8.1%

ADP says +216.000 jobs, up from 173.000 in January.

But ADP is almost never in line with the BLS report.

A few other encouraging signs:

Employment is up by 1.3 million alone in the past 2 months.

Employment is up by 2.3 million alone in the past 6 months.

Employment is up by 2.5 million in the past year.

Employment is up by 4.1 million since the low of 138 million in December 2009.

Employment is now higher by 400K than in February 2009, in Obama's first month in office.

Unemployment (12.8 million) is now also lower than in February 2009.

Another solid month.  Boy, whatever happened to that 0.5 percent surge in unemployment Gallup found? :P

Good news on a front doomsayers always like to focus on - half a million people rejoined the labour force.

Also good news are the big upward revisions.

So what are our chances of getting below 8%? Europe seems to have calm down......but gas prices remain to be a risk.

Fun fact: If the labor force participation rate had stayed the same, unemployment would have to 8.0%.

Where are all the Republicans celebrating how 500,000 people returned to the labor force this week? That's the only thing that matters when it comes to unemployment, they've been sure to remind us constantly!

Sometimes, you can't deny recovery.

I'm still waiting for that recession as we kick out 2-3% quarterly growth.

Me too and it will probably never happen. We're still stuck at 8.3% unemployment and gas prices are already through the roof for the summer. I know when you want to win you paint a rosier picture for the base of the party, but this just isn't working.

It is funny how Republicans keep moving the goal post. First, when the unemployment rate was dropping it was due to discourage workers now that people are re-entering the work force and the rate stay the same(which is actually a good thing.....) you guys complain about the rate......it is very predictable.

Gas prices will do what they always do, peak in the summer then go down in the fall.
