Presumably Santorum meant that Obama in 2008 ran as somebody whose chief characteristics were being anti-war, 'government' (presumably pro-), and a nig-the-uh. It makes some degree of basic sense if nothing else. You know, as a sentence.

I should goto a rally hes having tomorrow about 40miles away, and ask him what he was trying to say. :P

Did anybody else notice that on the first video that King posted of it, the thumbs down rating was like 2,300 to 100 thumbs up, with only 304 views? You think the Santorum campaign is paying YouTube botters to take it down? It hasn't hit any official news sources yet from what I can tell. It's trickling up the chain by now, surely.

Santorum was probably a bit tired already. He actually wanted to say "an anti-war big-government, muslim nigga who eats babies", but he didn't remember all the words. In this case, a teleprompter would help. He would be out of the race, before he could say: "Sh*t, what happened ?"

It's becoming more evident each day that Santorum has old Austrian roots.

Because in Austria "neger" ("n") means "broke/bankrupt", which is sometimes used by Carinthia Governor Gerhard Dörfler (FPÖ) ... :P

Maybe he wanted to say "anti-war government nigerian spy".

Nigerian.  He was trying to explain that Obama's birth certificate shows that he is actually an anti-war government Nigerian prince, and that he has inherited a sum of $12.500.000 (TWELVE MILLION FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS) left in a local Bank in Lagos.  However, his Saul Alinsky-inspired anti-war government activities prevent him from withdrawing the money.  He is seeking a God fearing foreign partner who is a United States citizen, where he will transfer this money and use it for investment purpose, (such as real estate management). Sir, we are honourably seeking your assistance.  If you can provide a Bank account where this money would be transferred to, THEN YOU WILL BE GRANTED 15% OF THE SUM as compensation for effort.

At least, that is what Santorum intended to say.  But then he stopped himself midway through "Nigerian", as he realized that he could take the money himself, and donate it all to his Super PAC.

Also, one of the Youtube commenters on the Santorum video suggested that he was going to say "government ninja".  Maybe Santorum almost spilled the beans on a secret government ninja program?

Politicians used to be able to say one thing before one audience and the diametric opposite in another without fear of getting caught with the contradiction that indicates that one is at the least  a fool if not a part-time liar. What might delight an audience in one place (think of the infamous "Real America" smear of urban America to an audience in rural Ohio) might horrify an audience 50 miles away in  Sodom and Gomorrah Columbus, Ohio whence came the TV crews.  That is over. One can't say that one will always side with the environment before the Sierra Club and that one will always side with Big Oil before the American Petroleum Institute and get away with it; someone will talk.

This can be said: there is no excuse for a white person uttering the N-word except in citing literature (Mark Twain relating some white people saying that nobody died when the boiler of a steamship exploded... "but a n---er got killed", relating the dehumanizing attitudes of white people toward blacks at the time), telling people what not to say,  or someone else's speech.

"Government nigga" sounds like a term of abuse in a Public Enemy tune. This is probably a nod to Flavor Flav's endorsement of Romney.

I found this by just doing a video search for Rick Santorum on YouTube.  His full 1 hour speech was the highest trending result on YouTube.  I click it and everybody is saying "34:22 lol" and that's where he said it.  The speech was given on March 27th, but it was only about three hours before I posted this did we get the first commenter who noticed what happened at that mark posted and the trend ensued.  

It's probably the freshest nig-the uh 'scandal' that we've all ever witnessed, so it's not surprising there's no media report on it.

The n-word is.  The joke is:

"How can you tell J. J. is white?  He doesn't use the n-word."  :)

Seriously, sometimes politicians will hear something like that and pick it up.   I think Christie Whitman did, or tried to pass it off as one.

I have a tough time believing he was actually going to say that, but the way he completely changes his train of thought afterwards is definitely more than a little suspicious.

And this story is still picking up; there are now a few hits on Google's first page for "Santorum" that refer to this.

My guess is that calling Obama a "government nigga" is a campaign staff joke that accidentally slipped out.   If you ever listend to the LBJ and Nixon tapes, you'll know that every politician tells a mature joke insulting to his opponents in private.  I'm sure Obama has a few of his own.

We've seem from the Zimmerman case that this could make him sympathetic to a lot of people... He will be seen as the true victim if anyone calls him out on it. It's too late to save his campaign but it may reverse Romney's momentum if Dems pick up on this and call out Santirum.

Romney has made some memorable gaffes during this campaign, however, nothing like this remark by Santorum.

Republicans, even conservative Republicans, even conservative evangelical Republicans, do you really want a candidate who would refer to the President of the United States in this manner?

Santorum has moved from a being a candidate expessing some legitimate views, to  being a nuisance, to now becoming an absolute embarassment, to the party, and I hate to say it, to the nation.

He has to step aside.

That's...pretty much impossible.  The standard GOP line on Obama is big-spender.  ndly is the absolute antonym of big-spender.  If anyone's "ndly" in the 2012 race, it's Hon. Rep. Dr. Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) M. D.

Translation: 

Oh, come on!  Well, uh, er, you know, I really have no explanation why Senator Santorum would almost drop the "N" bomb on President Obama.  You know, I'm not going to dignify that with a response, because the truth of the matter is, I really don't have a response.

I was being sarcastic and speculating what sort of excuse would be used.

In 2010, some right-winger in the Central Valley put up a sign saying Obama was ndly and it was clear that the person didn't know what the sign meant, because that would not be something any Republican would say about Obama if they really do know what it meant.
