Title: Campaign Office of Seatown
Post by: LastVoter on April 06, 2012, 12:07:25 AM
Hello friends, today I'm starting a write-in campaign for Senate. I will consider implementing parts of Game reform. I stand with the worker and will vote for legislation that improves the lives of working-class people.

I would've given you a high preference had I known about your candidacy before. :(

I think you and everyone else on my ballot could all make good Senators! :) Hopefully we get an exciting contest.

Game Reform: I will propose a few changes.
1) I will introduce bills that will offer Atlasia's stance on issues discussed in Forum Community.  Matters concerning certain posters will not be discusses, because we are not a judicial body. They will be obviously non-binding but we will attempt to get some power.  There won't be a direct democracy with this one, the representatives will be responsible.
2) We will attempt to convince Dave to allow Atlasia hold binding elections on moderator positions, and recall power.
3) We will work on our image to the other posters on Atlas, but not players in Atlasia. I support creation of the palace where Opebo becomes the monarch and Jmfcst is the prince. They will be responsible for the image and promotion of the game and for creating of image to foreign countries(other sub-forums on Atlas).  This will hopefully increase participation in the game. The monarch's decisions will be non-binding and subject to change by elected bodies and/or violent overthrow by the populace.
4) I will consider proposal's on relating Atlasia to current events.
TL;DR: More power to Atlasian poster, more participation!

On Copyright law & recent events- recently we saw destruction of a huge resource, megaupload which in my opinion is a valuable library of resources that was destroyed. If I'm elected to Senate I pledge to introduce a bill that creates fund to start a similar service that will be run independently(in case Atlasia's government becomes authoritative) with hosting in several countries that will unlikely be shutdown at the same time.

Labor initiatives that will be proposed in Senate if I am elected:
1) Free university tuition
2) Living wage law based on cost of living
3) Fairtrade to protect the workers across the globe.

Well it looks like I have won. Unfortunately I can't say the same about my other labor friends.
First order of business will be introduction of game reform to Parliament.

I will be take the oath soon after homelycooking settles the election irregularities and expect an official announcement.

Establishing the chocolate-chip muffin as our national muffin. Pingvin and I were co-sponsors.

I don't think National Muffin act is necessary.

Anyway I should reveal my proposal for the first thing I plan to do once I am sworn in. I will  introduce a bill where we create a parliament and the office of prime-minister and abolish senate & presidency. Regional governments and other constitutional powers will not change unless directly affected by this change, and the procedure will remain the same.
The basics:
1. There will be always an odd number of MPs.
2.  The MPs are free to form coalitions when voting for the prime minister, and majority can always vote to dissolve the parliament and call a new election. The prime minister does not have to be a member of parliament in order to facilitate coalition forming and compromise, and even potentially passage of laws by opposition aligned with a part of the ruling coalition.
3. MPs will be elected using Proportional representation.
4. The number of seats is determined by the number of voters in the last election starting with one voter for the first seat, two for the second, three for the third, n for the nth seat, except that there can never be less than 11.  This means there has to be 91 voters for us to get 12th and 13th seat in the Parliament.
5. A new election happens every 3 months, or after a vote of now confidence.
6. The parties have to set an election date 1 to 2 weeks after after a vote of no confidence.
I won't introduce this bill if there is an overwhelmingly negative reaction, as it takes quite a bit of work to amend all the necessary parts of the constitution.
The reason I am going to introduce this is game reform, I believe this system will be more engaging and fun since we have a new aspects to the game: coalition forming, one-issue parties, and regional parties.

I admire your creativity and your desire to implement game reform.  However, I must tell you in all honesty, you will never, ever get this to fly.  This is the US Election Atlas forum, and we are mostly Americans here.  Attempts to re-write our system of government in Atlasia, to something more resembling the British model, have been and will be met with stiff opposition.  I suggest you approach the idea of game reform from a different angle.

Unless Tweed stages a violent overthrow, there won't be any major changes to the system. It's worked fine IRL for 235 years (mostly) running.

I'm definitely more comfortable with the current system we have in place.  Like Fritz said, the creativity is admirable, but that probably won't be seen very positively with many players here, myself included.  I'm afraid that if we implement reforms that change the game too much, we'll only continue to see membership drop.  The current system works just fine.

People are represented pretty fairly compared to US system that is marred by gerrymandering and Electoral College.

The current system does...

Hello TVA workers,

On this great day I would like to announce great news to all of you. I will be pursuing massive expansion of TVA as the centerpiece of my agenda. As you all know, TVA is one of the most successful public utility companies. Many capitalists have criticized government for being inefficient, but TVA has proudly served this region for almost a century, providing lowest electricity rates and highest wages on the market. I would also like to announce that funds will be appropriated into expanding Wind energy production in the Smoky mountains, and there will be a creation of similar authority in Texas to manage Solar & other energy sources.

As far as I am aware, Great Smoky National Park does not cover all the areas that are suitable for wind production in the south, and there is also Cumberland Plateau that may also have enough wind to harness for Wind turbines to be a feasible energy source.

A leftist running a longshot campaign against a conservative incumbent who is popular mostly for non-ideological reasons in one of Atlasia's more right-leaning regions? Where have I heard that before? ;)

Why would you be an improvement over Senator NC Yankee?
Well Yankee was in the Senate for way too long, and he's also been PPT for a while. I think my election to the Senate could prove that it could work without Yankee, and we could start a fresh page in Atlasian History.

Game Upkeep:

In my last appearance I said that the main reason I'm running is to prove that Atlasia offices can function without a few select people. This was talking about the PPT. There's another office that I am considering improving, and that is the GM.  I would like to put in a new active Game Moderator, and expand the powers of the office to allow it to create events  in Atlasia, for which a legislative or executive response is required.

The election starts in a few hours, I want to leave a few words before the voting booth opens. If I'm elected I will work with the federal bodies to make public energy a reality in the South, as the labor platform(Griffin's last campaign for Governor) stated. I will also continue to push for other worker-friendly laws in the Senate, and continue the struggle against Atlasia's plutocrats that wage war against Atlasia and it's workers everyday. I plan to introduce a minimal income legislation, and I plan to replace all non-income taxes with a wealth tax on fortunes over a million. Finally I will continue the work on improving the game as outlined earlier in my campaign.

I'm looking forward to a good, clean election and wholeheartedly support the values for which you stand, and I hope you'll be able to champion them in the Senate. Public energy is essential to further economic development in this nation and the unshackling of consumers from price-gouging, energy fat cats.

I'd like to congratulate my opponent Yankee on a successful re-election. I also want to thank all the labor candidates that ran for Senate, it's important that we keep the red flag flying even when victory looks unlikely.
