Title: Warren Raises Almost $7 Million in 2012
Post by: HST1948 on April 09, 2012, 11:45:55 AM
USA Today

"Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren says she raised $6.9 million in the first three months of the year -- more than twice what incumbent GOP Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts hauled in for January through March." The Article Continues "Brown last week reported he raised $3.4 million in the first quarter and has about $15 million in the bank. The Republican has about $4 million more cash on hand than Warren."

I'm not a Warren hack, I don't even particularly like her, but I must admit her fundraising skills are pretty impressive, even if she loses in November.

Yeah, that's impressive. Almost Presidential-style fundraising.

And yet she can't get out of the margin of error. Money isn't everything in politics.

She's out of the margin of error in quite a few polls, actually. Just not the way she'd like. :p

She's within the margin of error in one direction or another in pretty much all of the polls that have actually been released by reputable firms. This is because Brown is anodyne, which I don't think anybody has tried to deny.

After more than one year of Romney struggling to beat his joke opponents, now you came to that conclusion?

If you average all the recent polls together though it's still a toss up.

She hasn't even spent all that money yet; she has $11 million in the bank.

Doesn't Brown still have something like $4 million more on hand than Warren?

Yes, he still has an edge. She'll close that gap but given how few media markets we have here both of them have enough money to carry out the full Mitzkrieg on tv up and down the state. For once, the NH people will have to put up with our ads driving them nuts.

With another quarter like this, she'll eliminate Brown's cash-on-hand advantage. Right now, it's safe to assume their spending will be roughly equal, or at least that neither will have a decisive cash advantage when the election season gets in full swing. Really, though, Warren's fundraising ability is a testement to how much enthusiasm she generates as a candidate. She has become a national political figure, and even now she is helping frame the political discorse in our country. Because of Warren (in part) defict reduction has been replaced by income inequality as the dominant issue in the country.  Even as a sitting senator, that's more than Brown can say.
