Title: Do you typically wear sunglasses when its sunny outside?
Post by: Napoleon on April 11, 2012, 01:18:33 AM
I like to wear sunglasses when it is sunny out but I don't always wear them because sometimes it is nice to show off my face. :P

I have nice sunglasses... plus with the Australian sun and the amount of squinting required... one word... wrinkles.

The #1 determinant in whether I wear sunglasses is my degree of inebriation. Sun is merely the most important afterthought.

I don't even own a pair.

Sadly I cannot, as I wear prescription spectacles.  However I do tend to avoid the problem by not going outside during the daylight hours, or at least minimizing this sort of hazardous behavior.

Not typically. I only own one pair and I've had them for about 5 years and they're really cheap.

I have no sunglasses. I always thought people looked a bit ridiculous in them.

It's 2012, so I'm obviously obligated to sport a pair of colorful Wayfarers:

I strongly dislike the sensation of an object resting on my face. Thank goodness for contact lenses. I'd be blind as a bat otherwise.

I also have prescription lenses, and I can't avoid daytime driving when I have some light sensitivity. For the last half dozen years I have found frames that have magnetically attached sunglasses designed to fit the frame. Its then easy to switch from outdoor to indoor by pocketing the sunglasses.

Wearing sunglasses is good for your eyes, especially if you live in areas with strong and consistent sunlight. I suppose that isn't a "problem" in Sweden. :P

I always wear sunglasses when driving and it's sunny out. And if I know I will be walking around during the day a lot, I usually remember to grab them but they are usually just in my car.

No, mostly because I don't own a pair.

Never leave the house without them.

No. I mean I own some but they're not very stylish, and they're kind of tight. I'll probably save up for some decent wayfarers or something in a few months.

I look hilariously dodgy in sunglasses, so no.

I have prescription sunglasses, so I usually wear them.  I also like looking like I'm bringing in a shipment from Columbia.  ;)

I usually wear sunglasses whenever its sunny, but the main reason is to protect the eyes from UV light, especially in CO.  It's ridiculously strong in higher elevations.  Before vacation, I'm gonna pick up myself a pair of Oakley Gascans online.  My eyes have always been sensitive to sunlight.

I think that sounds nice, but alas my choices are somewhat limited here.. partly by what's available, partly by lack of ability to communicate to find very obscure items, and lastly by poverty.

It sounds strange to see you use the word 'dodgy' - it seems a non-archaic Americanism, not what I expect from you.  I do not doubt that your use of this term is dodgier than sunglasses would be..

Never.

Should be banned on any except the 10% ugliest faces, anyhow.

Only when I'm driving, it's sunny, and I'm wearing contacts; I feel awkward when I hide my face.

Dodgy isn't an Americanism, mon.

Yes, but usually only when I'm outside for a couple of hours in a row (i.e. for example when I'm on holiday or when I play tennis outdoors).

Yes. I usually wear my Coasta Del Mer shades in the hot Charleston summer sun, but I switched to Wayfarers recently to get with the times. I'm so trendy.

Hmmm... We use dodgy over here, and I always thought the origin to be British. I would have thought the American version would be "shonky." I'm probably mistaken, however.

A lot of people who frequent this forum are vehemently anti-fashion, and apparently proud of it.

A 30 year old Australian who doesn't wear sunglasses looks like a 35 year old Canadian.

That said, I am vehemently anti-fashion in a Melbourne kind of way, so they-re knock off Aviators that are slightly too big for my face. Well-fitting aviators are too Naso for me.

But Joe, don't you see the longing in their young eyes? There is a chance you are mistaking their unfashion for anti-fashion.

I'm not sure my $10 pair from Rite-Aid qualifies as fashion but I wouldn't be outside without them :)
