Whoever takes this, I would be interested in attaching Jake Matthew's bill to this since they both amend the same thing.

Hello?

Text Jake introduced. Needs improvements before it can be offered though.

Quote
Third Amendment to the Caucus Infrastructure and Formation Act

1. Independents are hereby allowed to register with a caucus.

2. Any Independent that wishes to register with a caucus must do so in the New Register thread.

I like Jake's amendment, but I don't get what the purpose is of the first bill.  That's why I'm not volunteering to sponsor it.

It basically gives us the ability to shut the bill down in the absence of the RPP and JCP, without needing to have a Presidential signature.

I'm still not following... why would we want to shut it down, exactly?

I'm still not following... why would we want to shut it down, exactly?

Because it has been irrelevent since the dissolution. We have a grand total of one recognized caucus right now: The Right to Life Caucus. No one else has even bothered to make one.

Hm.  Then in that case, we'd probably be better off with an outright repeal of the law instead.

Both these bills were written before the dissolution vote when no one was sure what would happen to the JCP and RPP. That's why no one would have done that.

Yes, let's do that.  I've never understood the necessity of the caucuses as they were formed.

Why should we ban caucuses, just because they aren't currently in use? Would we ban political parties if there was only one active party and everyone else were indies?

If a bunch of people want to gather and start a caucus or a group for some cause, then they are allowed to do so.  But legally recognizing something that no longer serves a purpose just doesn't seem necessary.  Caucuses practically are political parties and most of the caucuses already became parties after the JCP and RPP dissolved.

Yeah; I'm just not sure what caucuses do.  I found the restrictions placed on their use (e.g., your party must be this tall to enter, your caucus must be this large to count) wounded their practicality, too.

Will an amendment be forthcomming to modify this bill to repeal the Caucus infrastructure and Formation act? If such isn't present by tomorrow, I shall move to open a final vote.

We don't have a sponsor, do you want it then since you are re-writing the bill?

Senators have 72 hours to object to assumption of sponsorship by Senator Scott.

Senators have 24 hours to object to the sponsor originated amendment by Senator Scott.

And yes, I can do this because Bacon King did it back in 2010, once. :P

We can have a final vote if someone requests it, any time after 9:58 PM EST. Provided no one speaks on the bill itself, before I open the vote. :P
