Title: Ted Short has died
Post by: Filuwaúrdjan on May 10, 2012, 12:37:13 PM
At the age of 99. Wilson-era cabinet minister, Deputy Leader and absolute loyalist, best known now, I guess, for inventing Short Money (state funding for Opposition parties) and his rather sarcastic resignation letter in 1976, but he was around for a while and did other things (he was an unusually competent Education Secretary in the late 1960s, for example. This is probably not entirely be unconnected to the fact that he had previously been a headteacher). At the time of his death his was the oldest living former MP. Good obit (http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/may/10/edward-short-lord-glenamara) over at tehgraun, which is worth reading if you've any interest in Labour Party history.

RIP Ted Short.

Bill Price (Rugby MP from 1966-1979) served as his PPS IIRC.
