Title: When will we first see Romney ahead in Ohio?
Post by: Dereich on May 25, 2012, 03:57:20 PM
Even with the race tightening up lately we haven't seen Romney take the lead in Ohio in many (any?) polls yet. When will we first see Romney with a lead that is verified by multiple polls? And I do mean any lead at all, even if its gone by November.

I think that it will either be reasonably soon or never.

I'm going to say around September, right after the conventions close in late August, and the campaign really heats up.

A brief peak in late August/early September which soon collapses.

The day after he picks Rob Portman for VP. He won't trail there again.

I assume that you mean the Republican Convention.

There was a small, short-lived bump for John McCain immediately after the Republican National Convention as shown in polls of the following week or so.

Because people care about Rob Portman.

The day after he picks Rob Portman for VP.
It may take longer than that.  The time from when he announces him to the convention will be long enough.

Serious people do/will.  That will effect un-serious people as they try to be serious.

Voting for a presidential ticket because someone from your state was added to it as the VP doesn't strike me as very serious.

Romney will probably get a small convention bounce... so then.

You are trying to combine Two different things.
1) People will vote FOR Romney or perhaps against Obama
2) Serious People 'care' about Rob Portman

It is probably likely that a VP selection helps promote/jump-start the top of the ticket in their home state.  The VP can't deliver the state, but they can potentially boost the top of the ticket in the state.
