Title: Reader's Digest Illustrated Story of World War II
Post by: CARLHAYDEN on July 05, 2012, 05:19:12 PM
I was surprised by the quality of this tome.

While I expected the photographs to be good (they are), I was surprised by the quality of the articles.

Among the notable authors are: William L. Shirer, Samuel E. Morison, Winston S. Churchill, Edward R. Murrow, S.L.A. Marshall, Robert Leckie, Bernard L. Montgomery, Ernie Pyle, J.F.C. Fuller, John Toland,  Cornelius Ryan, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Peter Maas, and Hanson Baldwin.

However, some of the material is first person narratives, such a Capt. Mitsuo Fuchida's article, "I Led the Attack on Pearl Harbor."  It is the first person (I was there) narratives which really make this volume informative.

Sadly, the maps in the volume are few, and primitive.
